FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2020 61 Anyone who consistently plays in the morning or afternoon sessions of the Billiards for Fun Group will agree that this group consists of some of the nicest, kindest, and best billiards players in our community. There's usually laughter, banter, and once in a while muttered frustration. This game is indeed much more difficult than it looks, and takes hours of practice to hone any of the many skills it takes to play this game to any degree of self-satisfaction. (You all agree, right?) But the people make the group, and the people that consistently attend our group are above-average, and all as above- described. Thank you to each one of you who participate. You make the game fun, just by being you! We held our first quarterly tournament of 2020 on Feb. 11 (just a few days beyond the cutoff date for the March article). So, here we are in April letting you know who won that tournament. This tournament was a nail-biter to say the least. It was hard-fought and won with individual persistence, dignity and skill. The smiling people you see in the adjacent photos are indeed our Feb. 11 winners: First place partnership: Carlos Rivera and Bob Rector. Second place team: Joy Collins and Johnny Ramirez. Congratulations to all participants and winners — you are all awesome! If you are interested in learning this fun game of skill using a stick and hitting pretty colored balls with that stick, and want to play with people who always have a fun time (even during tournaments!), come by the Billiards Room any Tuesday and observe and/ or join the 11 am session or the 1 pm session. These are all wonderful people, and you will find yourself accepted and applauded for any skill level. We also have reserved practice sessions during the same time slots on Saturdays, open to the community. C'mon… we know you want to. Hope to see you soon! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine, egcellent@msn.com Billiards for Fun Wild Bunch Billiards The "Wild Bunch" 8-Ball Billiards Group is geared for those who want to play competitively with those of their skill level. We started the new year with inviting the best of the best from Sun Lakes and Solera to play in competition on Fridays, from 12:30 to 3:30 pm in our Billiards Room. It has been a great success with the skill levels ranging from Level 4 to Level 7. The "Wild Bunch" consists of some of the best players in the league: Joe Spinella, Lucas Don, Robert Howard, Bob Rector, Mike Corbett, Carlos Rivera, LeRoy Wright, Rocket Spinosa, and Gracy Luna. We will be having our 3rd Annual Wild Bunch Billiards Tournament in the April/May time frame. We will be competing with Sun Lakes and Solera, playing 8-Ball in the morning and 9-Ball in the afternoon. If you want to play serious, competitive pool, we invite you to come by the Billiards Room and join in the stimulation of competitive play. We do not play with partners; we play one-on-one with an opponent of your skill level. We are always looking for those who want to play competitively and, who knows, you just may want to change up your game and play on the team. And, most importantly, we have a good time! ~ Gracy Luna, gracyluna@aol.com 1st place team Carlos Rivera and Bob Rector 2nd place team Joy Collins and Johnny Ramirez
