18 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2020 | Guess what everybody? Our Spring Concert Extravaganza is coming up fast. It is about six weeks until we regale you with many wonderful songs from the past. We are presenting "Beatles vs Bacharach." We have many new members in our club and they have added a lot to our Chorale. We should have around 55+ on stage. We are always laughing about something during our practices. Come prepared to be enthralled with favorites from "our times" and we promise you will be singing along with us. You have read my articles in the past about how singing is a natural anti-depressant. We get the feel-good brain chemical that makes us feel uplifted and happy. Have you heard about the scientists who have identified a tiny organ in the ear called the sacculus that responds to the frequencies created by singing? I am sure you know that singing can have some of the same effects as exercise that gives the singer an overall "lifted" feeling. It is also an aerobic activity, meaning it gets more oxygen into the blood for better circulation, and we know that tends to promote a good mood. We will do anything for stress reduction. Just begin noticing all of the smiling faces on the men and women in the choir. Because our Winter Concert Raffle is so popular, we will be having a 50/50 Raffle for the Spring Concert. Bring your dollars to win the 50/50 pot! "The more you play, the more we pay!" Mark your calendars now for Sun., May 17 at 2 pm in Abravanel Hall. Doors open at 1:30 pm. There are no tickets to buy! As always, the Chorale Society concerts are free. It is a family friendly concert so bring your family and friends. We love to sing and there are always some surprises. We have a few for you this time… well maybe more than a few. See you on Sun., May 17. Choral Society Do you need a temporary loan of medical equipment? Helping Hands maintains an inventory of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes and shower chairs for people living in Ocean Hills Country Club. Call one of the volunteers listed at the end of this article and we will deliver to your door at no cost to you. You can help a neighbor in OHCC by donating a clean, serviceable item that you are no longer using to Helping Hands. Check your storage areas for the items listed in this article.
