30 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2020 | Our next game lesson is "How to Play Cut-Throat" with David Key on Thurs., April 2, at 1:30 pm. This fun game is the best three-person game we know. Come on down and pick up the ins and outs of this classic and often-raucous contest from David. You will soon see why the game is informally known as "Screw Your Buddy" as the players try to persuade the shooter to go after the other guy's balls. Once you've had the Cut-Throat Lesson, you're ready for the Cut- Throat Tournament on Thurs., April 23, at 1:30 pm. Prizes: Your name in everlasting brass up on our Wall of Champions! Plus, an added 15 minutes of fame when your exploit is highlighted in the Billiard Club section of the OHCC Living Magazine - suitable for copying and sending to everyone you know. Plus, the fabled winners-only Billiard Club visor. Where else can you get three prizes for a single victory? Not good enough to play in a tournament? Yes, yes you are! Sure, tournaments are about winning, but players come to our tournaments for many reasons. Some come simply because they like pool. Others because they get to try a new game. Yet others come because they enjoy meeting their friends at a tournament. And then there's the fact that it's such an easy and automatic way to meet new people. There is nothing like playing pool with someone to get to know them. You know, "meet a stranger, and make a friend." Having fun, playing new games, meeting friends old and new - these attractions have nothing to do with how well you shoot. Won't you join us? "Bank shots" refer to any shot where a rail is used to help pocket an object ball. Some bank shots hit the object ball to a cushion first, others hit the cushion first and then hit the object ball. Either way, when you can execute these shots your odds of winning will go way up. If this sounds like something you'd like to learn, plan to be with us on Thurs., April 9, at 1:30 pm. for the Banking Lesson. We've got something different scheduled for Thurs., April 16, at 2:30 pm, "Stupid Pool Tricks – Foolishness to Amuse Your Grandkids." Come on down for 30 minutes of silliness as Charlie Payne struggles with a series of shots that vary from "most unlikely" to "entirely impossible." Who knows, he might make some of them. Either way, it'll be a good time. Once you know the secrets, some of these shots are easy. He'll show you. They are good for amusing children, grandchildren, various cousins, and assorted in-laws. Perhaps you've seen folks in the Billiards Club playing the strange game of "Golf " and wondered what on earth they were doing. It's nothing like regular pool – but it's very popular. Come learn about it on Thurs., April 30, at 1:30 pm. You'll see that it's a lot of fun.
