| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2020 | 13 Garden Club Remember – if we are not yet able to enter the Clubhouse through the front doors due to the renovation, the access to Abravanel Hall will be through the double doors by the stage that is next to our outdoor plant sharing table. All OHCC residents are welcome to attend the OHCC Garden Club general meetings held on the second Wednesday of each month in Abravanel Hall. The doors open at 9:30 am for refreshments and mingling and the meeting starts promptly at 10 am. Stop at the Greeters' table for a nametag and to pick up a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the beautiful plants that we give away each month. If you want to sign up for membership or for volunteering, stop at our Hospitality table. Also, check out the sharing table outside the double doors by the stage. You may find that perfect plant to fill a spot in your garden. Happy spring! Our general meeting will be Wed., April 8 and will be presented by Mary Friestedt, Master Gardener who has been a docent at San Diego Botanic Garden since 2001 and a docent at Torrey Pines State Reserve since 2012. Mary will take us beyond herbal flavors to herbal health remedies, and more. Think antioxidants, skin care, and arthritis remedies. How did Cleopatra keep her hair and skin so beautiful? Mary will explore the history and culture of medicinal plants. Just a reminder to our wonderful members and guests. As we know, Abravanel Hall was brilliantly designed to have outstanding acoustics. Therefore, conversations in the audience can be heard throughout the hall. This is distracting to the speakers (and you know the quality of our microphones) and others in the audience. Please remember to silence your cell phones and go outside if you need to have a conversation. Thank you so very much. Upcoming Events: We will be planning fun and informative outside events in 2020 so keep listening at the general meeting and watching for your bulletins so you don't miss out on your Garden Club's upcoming activities. And, of course, we are planning our Spring Garden Tour and luncheon on May 13. I promise more news on that in the next newsletter. I love spring anywhere, but if i could choose, i would always greet it in a garden. ~ Ruth Stout Theatre Arts Theatre Arts was thrilled to present James Mandel, the Sci-Fi guy as a special event in March. It was a unique and exciting presentation! We're happy to report that Actors' Workshop has a room assignment! Until the renovation is complete, classes will be held in the Mykonos Room on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm.
