34 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2020 | Well our sailing season is beginning to get underway. We have three boats going out in April and three, at this time, going out in May. April sailings are all filled up with standbys also ready. The month of May still has some crew openings with members getting first choice for those available spots. Guests may join us for a day sail, if space is still available a couple of weeks out from the sailing date. Thanks to all our sailing interested members for their strong and quick responses to filling up our boats so fast. Remember if you want to go sailing, be sure to check our website periodically to see if a new captain and mate have stepped up and are now taking another boat out. Our next club meeting will be on the first Tuesday of April on the 7th, starting at 7 pm. We hope that will be held in Abravanel Hall but with the remodel effort at the Clubhouse, the location may be changed. Captain Gerald Gorman will be leading the meeting, which will be your chance to sign up for our April 23, road trip to the San Diego USCG station, so come join us. Getting to know your captains and mates who are taking boats out is the best way to talk with them ahead of time and see what sailing dates best match up for you. That is easier to do over a glass of wine at our meetings. We have discontinued the RSVP request of member for attending our regular club meetings, so just come and join us. Our Activities Chairperson, Gail Miscioscia, should also be updating everyone on some new day trips that are being planned, so once again you don't want to miss out. We are waiting for more information on the Lanai availability for our summer party "Escape to Margaritaville" with more location information coming soon. Our next meeting on June 2, will be a special outdoor FREE BBQ dinner affair for current members. This is our club's Summer Sailing Kickoff Celebration to encourage everyone to get aboard and get sailing out on the sunny and windy blue waters of San Diego Bay. This dinner party is our way of saying come join the fun, so we look forward to seeing you there. Yes, you are correct, it is a FREE dinner party, but it will require your RSVP to reserve a seat and sufficient food. The menu will include BBQ burgers, baked beans, a mixed green salad, and ice cream sundaes for dessert. Non- members may join the festivities at a ticket cost of $7 per person. Leave your check in the sailing envelope at the Clubhouse. So there you have it sailors. We are setting sail for a boat load of fun, excursions, parties and some blue water sailing. Hope you will join us. "Cast off all lines and prepare to get underway." ~ Commodore Forrest Newburg. Sailing Club
