16 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2020 | RECREATION DEPARTMENT From the Recreation Director By Elise Campbell It sure has been a wild and unexpected past couple of months with updates that seem to happen on a day to day basis. For some it's been difficult to stay home, wondering when things will go back to normal. And it's been difficult to be away from family and friends, to enjoy the simple pleasures of going to dinner, concerts, and spending precious time with loved ones. But it is more important now than ever to take just a few minutes each day to yourself to recognize Mental Health Month. Taking care of yourself and helping others cope with their stress can make our community stronger. Here are some ways to manage the stress or anxiety you may be feeling: • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting. • Take care of your body. • Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. There are many virtual Yoga classes you can view online through your computer or stream to your TV. • Try to stick to your usual routines and continue to eat healthy, well-balanced meals. • Go on walks regularly. • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy. • Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling. Join us for our Annual Fourth of July Golf Cart Parade. For residents who prefer to watch, the carts will be turning right out of the Main Clubhouse, then right on Riviera, followed by another right back onto Country Club Dr. The parade will end back at the Main Clubhouse parking lot. The opening ceremonies, award announcements and parade kickoff will all happen from the Main Clubhouse parking lot. For parade participants, application packets for the Golf Cart Parade and Classic Cars can be mailed to you upon request beginning Tues., May 26. This year's theme is "Stars and Stripes, Now and Always!" We will be offering ribbons and gift certificates to the restaurant for the following six winners: FLOAT: first, second, and third place; and CART: first, second, and third place. The deadline to register your cart is Mon., July 1. Please remember that there are two categories. One for golf carts with no modifications made to it (only decorations allowed), and the Float category, for any golf cart that has modifications made to the frame or ones that are towing anything. For further questions, please contact the Recreation Department at (951) 845-2191. 4th of July Celebration & Cart Parade!
