| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | May 2020 | 27 Billiards Four Seasons Billiards Team meets and plays Tuesday mornings 9 am to 1 pm. The team competes throughout the city of Hemet. Anyone interested in competitive team play call Ron Cordero at (909) 519-9095 or Art Martel at (909) 973-8208. We have a few people interested in playing horseshoes. There is a horseshoe league that plays on Wednesday mornings at 8 am at different locations around Hemet. We practice on Saturday mornings at 8 am. The league started in September. Horseshoes Well, here it is May already. Can you believe it? With all the rain we have had we should really have some beautiful flowers to enjoy. With the coronavirus happening and all activities being canceled it is difficult to know what to say about Shuffleboard. Until activities resume there will be no practice on Monday or Friday. Hopefully by sign-ups in August we will be back to normal. I will keep you informed. Stay healthy and working together we will get through this. For information contact Toni Harris at (951) 325-8357 or toniharris63@ verizon.net. Shuffleboard Well, I hope you are all safe from this virus. As of this date, the Bocce committee has voted to cancel the 2020 season because of the virus and continuing rain. I am sorry about this but we as a committee feel that this is the best decision. For info contact Dennis Harris at (951) 325-8357 or email dharris327@verizon.net. Bocce Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, & time. My question to you is what can I do to help you? The past few weeks, life has gotten a lot harder. The governor announced that seniors and people with chronic illnesses need to stay home to protect themselves from the novel coronavirus (COVID -19). While public health experts agree that self-isolation and social distancing during this time is extremely important, they are also worried about the toll it can take on seniors' mental health and well- being. I am hearing so many stories that are breaking my heart during these trying times. For example a man's wife suffered a life- threatening condition and he did not take her to the hospital in fear of them catching COVID-19 virus. Another couple who were receiving home care services, as well as home health services canceled both agencies in fear of catching the COVID-19 virus. The husband died a week later and the wife had no home health support; she was all alone. If you are receiving these services, don't cancel. Make sure each clinician coming into your home is wearing their PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) such as masks, gloves, gowns and booties. These agencies are here to help you. If you need home health services call your doctor. Here are some tips for surviving and hopefully, even thriving while stuck at home. Get Digitally Connected: Get a Facebook or Instagram account. Learn how to use the video functions like FaceTime or Zoom. Send emails to your family members and friends. Read a book online. Keep Volunteering And Exercising, But Change It Up: If you have a volunteer job that is now on hold, why not see if there is a way to help out online or over the phone? Find a workout online or get outside to take a walk. Just make sure you are six feet away from other people. Other ways to exercise is gardening or do your spring cleaning. Start Writing Or Journaling: Start writing your memoirs so that you can leave memories of your life for your kids and grandkids. Write letters to your friends or family members. If you have some left over Christmas cards start getting them ready to send out for Christmas. Tackling Anxiety And Isolation: Doctors are concerned that anxiety will affect seniors in the coming weeks. During this critical period, health experts are encouraging seniors to stay in touch with their health care provider. Seniors shouldn't be afraid to tell their doctor that they are stressed out. There are a lot of mental health resources by phone that doctors can provide Remember… you have the right to choose the hospice you want when the time comes.
