So, we find ourselves in the month of May. First, let us give a shout out to all mothers in our OHCC community — wishing all a very Happy Mother's Day! To those moms no longer with us, who are in our hearts but not forgotten, we remember. We would like to thank all the clubs that contributed content to this month's publication. As we reviewed the articles, we were reminded of how creative and supportive the club membership can be. Some have listed their combined efforts in this COVID-19 fight and what they have been doing, during this difficult time. We can see in the shared resolve of our residents their commitment to beat this challenge. Although the Clubhouse is not yet open, it appears most are staying active and socially distant. Some of the stories that have been shared amongst the membership include: a group of resident musicians holding a street concert at the edge of their driveway for all to hear, another neighborhood group walking to the bottom of their driveways at 6 pm to have a group chat across the asphalt, residents sewing their hearts out making masks for Tri-City Hospital and one woman walking out her door to find an unexpected bag of groceries on her porch step. It is truly remarkable to hear all the heartwarming and wonderful stories. All these great ideas are keeping with the mandated guidelines. As this situation evolves, new decisions will have to made regarding the permitted activity throughout the community. As someone has described it as a "fast, moving target." During this time, we have spent a good portion of our day listening to television. A bit of information that was shared by Yale professor, Laurie Santos, recognizing the Five Keys to Happiness include: to practice deep breathing, applying acts of kindness, eating healthy, exercising regularly, and showing gratitude by focusing on the blessings in one's life. Staff continues to answer emails, assemble submissions for the newsletter, provide access to fitness videos, pay bills, maintain the pet waste stations, clean benches, and address resident concerns as they arise. The staff is looking forward to coming back to the Clubhouse and having it fully operational. We find ourselves missing the non-stop commotion of the Clubhouse, including the repetitious melodies, as our musicians practice that one song, over and over… the banging of chairs and tables set up time and time again, the constant interruptions, the complaints that the coffee is not strong enough, the constant chatter throughout the Galleria, and the many requests to turn up the AC/heat. Funny, how quiet is often longed for — until quiet comes. We all know with what we have been through, these past couple of months, we will have a greater appreciation for what we do have — and each other. Thank you for your continued patience. Stay busy, stay safe, and be well. See you in the renovated Clubhouse very, very, soon!
