28 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2020 | As members of the OHCC Photo Club we are used to meeting once a month In the Ladies Clubroom, where we enjoy presentations by members of the club and outside visitors. These frequently involve slide shows based on member's images, sometimes on a particular theme, or based on a field trip or excursion with our cameras. Now all clubs have entered a period where members are not at liberty to get together in groups for joint activities, such as taking photos, or have gatherings to view the results of such meetings. So what can we do to pursue our photography? Fortunately we are well placed to use the free time constructively. We can go out within the community, either singly or in small family groups such as domestic couples, and take photos. These might be based on some features of Ocean Hills, such as flowers, trees, architecture, birds, other wildlife, and so on. And while we are taking these photos we can also explore technical aspects that might reinforce what we already enjoy about photography, or explore methods that are new to us. Perhaps you are someone who has a traditional camera but you have recently acquired a new cellphone and want to explore this as an intriguing alternative. Or you may realize that you always use the same approach to your shot-taking but you would like to check on other alternatives that might provide exciting new images. A major benefit of this enforced reassessment of our picture-taking is that we will all be obtaining new portfolios of work that we may be able to exploit later, when we once again return to a more conventional version of the Photo Club.
