36 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2020 | Swim & Wellness Your personal physicians may have given you guidelines on exercise and nutrition to help you stay well for immune health maintenance and building immunity, which some of you have shared with us. We would also like to share some of our members' activities with you. For exercise, we are using 5BX devised by Dr. Bill Orban for the Royal Canadian air force (fit450.com/HTML/5BX_Intro.html), walking the two mile loop, riding a recumbent bike at home, doing chair yoga, online yoga classes, push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, toe touches, Tai Chi Easy™ (offered by the Healer Within Foundation), qi gong; performing Leesa Singer's aqua fit exercises on land, golfing, kettlebells, lifting weights, and EoS Fitness free online cardio and strength training workouts. For nutrition we are using Bauman College Eating for Health (baumancollege.org) and Dr. Steven Gundry diet (gundrymd.com, drgundry.com/recipes/ whole foods diets). Our favorite immune-building foods are fresh carrot juice, sweet potatoes, matcha green tea, homemade chicken soup, fish, fresh vegetables, and salads while minimizing sugar and salt. Lamb, beef, and fish are all high in zinc which helps strengthen the immune system. For stress management, we are keeping connected with friends and family online through Zoom, meditating, praying, and attending faith-based meetings regularly online. We go outside into the sunshine to make vitamin D and to get fresh air and breathe deeply. Free monthly blood pressure clinic update: At the February meeting, SSW members requested clinics be reinstituted. Formal request by Lynne and Kory presented to CSC in March, and the proposal was approved. The HOA Master Board will review and advise. June 6 Summer Beach Boys Mai Tai's Surf Party: On hold until further notice. Surf outings: Tim Pentel and Brendan Ward are updating our club webpages for surf dates, when beaches reopen. Questions? Contact Tim Pentel, expert OHCC surfer, at timpentel@yahoo.com. June 13 - 18: Free annual swim lessons. Save these dates! Need to learn how to swim? Need to improve your strokes? Expert instruction given by Ken team k2krueger@yahoo.com. Be well and stay healthy.! Questions? There are no "upcoming events" scheduled. No games, no tournaments, no leagues, no parties. COVID-19 turned our world upside down. We need to stay inside our homes as much as possible. Read, play games, exercise, do spring cleaning, call your friends, and loved ones. Besides family members in your house, stay at least six feet from others. While this virus is scary, do not spend too much time reading or watching TV or social media about it. Find other activities to take your mind off the virus. Follow the guidelines for social distancing and hand washing. Only pay attention to credible sources for information. And beware of scams. Pray for the dedicated first responders and health care providers who risk their lives to save others. Pray for those who are infected. Stay safe. This too shall pass.
