| OHCC LIVING | MAY 2020 | 7 The SERT Club Board of Directors proudly announce the formation of the OHCC Safety and Emergency Response Team (SERT) Club. The purpose of the SERT Club is to: "Promote the safety of the OHCC community by providing an opportunity whereby residents can enhance their knowledge, skill, and ability to prepare for and respond to local incidents and natural disasters that may adversely affect their standard of living." The SERT Club replaces the CERT Organization and will be both a social and a service club. The SERT Club will continue to provide tips on preparing for disasters and will also coordinate training from outside experts in First Aid, AED, CPR and other emergency response skills. A new element offered by the SERT Club will be the Neighbor- Helping-Neighbor Program. The club's current membership is comprised of the 75 members of the former CERT Organization and includes seven appointed Board of Directors. All members will be general members with those former CERT members with specialized training in emergency preparedness also being members of the Incident Response Team (IRT). The IRT will only be activated in the event of an emergency at the direction of the SERT Board. The SERT – IRT will continue to be involved in the City of Oceanside – Emergency Operations Center during major emergencies. It has been said that it is "not if – but when" a natural disaster or a significant inconvenience, such as a power outage, will happen. As a community we need to be prepared for and respond when such an incident occurs. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of everyone in OHCC to be prepared and the SERT Club members will certainly contribute to that preparation and response. To achieve that goal the CERT Board is actively seeking new members. Club membership is now open to all OHCC residents who have an interest in safety and in giving back to the community. We ask you to get involved. To learn more please view the SERT website at https://certohcc. wixsite.com/sert. (I recommend you bookmark this link!). For new members the annual dues are only $10. Look for membership information coming soon to your tubes. If you have any questions, please email using the link in the website home page or email me directly at ohccsert@gmail.com. Thank you and stay safe. ~ John Slayton, President, the SERT Club. Announcing the New SERT Club
