Interestingly, the brand new teams have had a much easier time than the oldtimers, a reference to experience not age!! If your team is thinking about playing Summer Bocce, the time has come to act! The deadline for signing up for the summer is June 7. Play begins the week of June 17. In an effort to avoid the worst of the summer heat, the hours will be 5, 6, and 7 pm, and 8 pm (if we need it), Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If you've paid your dues for 2013, your team will only owe the team fee, which is $12 or $3 each. If you're new to bocce you must first join the club; the membership fee is $12 pp. Team entries and money go to 1463 Birdie or 1288 Pleasant Valley. Each has a box at the door. Should you find yourself on the north side, check out our bulletin board. Any info you need can be found on one side or the other of the board or on the back of our bocce shed. Have you 'old-timers' read the bulletin board lately?!! A big "Thank You" to our faithful referees. Bocce ball, as we know it, would be impossible without them. Have you thanked a referee lately?! If you wish to play bocce but need a team, give Dutch a call at 845-0392. She'll do her best to find a spot for you. See you there! pickleball & paddle tennis Do you want to make new friends and meet fun people? Improve balance, agility and cardio? Then join us in the fastest growing sport among seniors in the nation… Pickleball! Or, perhaps you're more interested in the traditional Paddle Tennis game. Either way, we would love to have you come and join us! No equipment? No problem… just give us a call! Instruction and equipment can be provided! Courts are at the Main Clubhouse, next to the Pro Shop. Pickleball hours are Monday through Saturday at 8:30 am and Monday at 5 pm. Our recent clinic was fun and brought many new faces and promising talent to the sport. All Sun Lakers, whether on a team or not, are welcome to join our practice sessions Mondays thru Saturdays. On Ladies Day (Wednesday), table priorities go to any ladies who want to play. There is no cost to practice with our friendly group. However, if you join a team, it costs $10 per three-month season. Our teams compete every Thursday at 12 noon in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room, with some "away" games at a couple of non-Sun Lakes facilities. For a fun afternoon of fierce-butfriendly competition, come watch us play.
