international culture club We will be going south of the border this month while we celebrate Mexico at our monthly dinner dance on May 9. Doors open at 5:30 pm and Skyline Express will start playing music at 6 pm. This is the band we featured at our Valentine's Dance and everyone raved about them. We have 301 members and are the largest dance club in Sun Lakes. Our name is somewhat a misnomer as we are strictly a dance club who has a monthly dinner dance featuring the food of a selected country. Many members like to dress in a way to reflect the country as well. Our dinner buffet starts at 6:30 pm and features some of your favorite Mexican selections such as shredded beef tacos with a condiment station of diced onions, cilantro, shredded lettuce and salsa on each dinner table, chicken enchiladas, seasoned refried beans with cheese and Spanish rice. Tortilla chips with Carlos' salsa and a dinner salad with tomatoes, red onion rings/ jicama, ranch and orange vin dressing along with churros for dessert will be preset at the table. Sign ups are in the North Clubhouse on Thurs., May 2, at 3 pm. Cost is $22 for members, $25 for non-resident guests. Call Martie Steggel at 769-3217 for a dinner box if you sign up and cannot attend. Info., Diane, 769-9308. dinner dance club Members will welcome their special evening out at the Main Clubhouse Ballroom on Sat., May 18. Global Affair will play for our listening and dancing pleasure. Doors open at 5:30 pm so we have time to visit and get our drinks before the music begins at 6 pm. Our "dressy casual" attire keeps this a special evening, but more relaxed as we get in our summer mode. Our dinner menu offers wonderful options. We start the meal with a refreshing spinach salad with strawberries and pecans. The entrée options include lemon dill cod with new potatoes and broccoli for $20 or you might choose the cashew encrusted chicken with new potatoes and broccoli for $21. A vegetarian option of cheese ravioli with marinara sauce is available for $18. The meal will be completed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Sign ups for the dance will be Thurs., May 9, in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Table selections will begin at 2:30 pm so come early to have all paperwork completed on time. If you have signed up for the dance, but find that you are unable to attend, please contact Carol Rhine at 845-5962 before 3 pm on the day of the dance. What a wonderful way to have a very special evening out! big band dance On Thurs., May 2, we will have a Mad Hatter/Easter Parade. The Main Clubhouse Ballroom doors open at 5:30 pm. They practice for at least four hours each week and they choose the classes to take. Choreographer Evelyn Hawkins offers jazz, military, Broadway, novelty, precision and modeling classes. Routines are offered at easy, intermediate and hard levels. Participants in each number go up to as many as 25. One advanced dance has only six. Each member helps with various activities and needs. All costumes are put together by a team of seamstresses. All ladies love to dance and are committed to learning the material. It can take a year to learn one routine. Showcasing what we've learned is what we all work for. We are available to perform at your functions. It is always a plus if we can use the stage or dance floor but have done it in much smaller spaces. Ray's repertoire consists of the great Italian crooners such as Sinatra, Dean Martin, and more. We always enjoy the Italian love songs like "Night and Day." Ray wanted to take us on a trip so he let us choose California or Hawaii, we took Hawaii. Ray then sang the "Hawaiian Wedding Song." Ray ended his show with his signature song of "Cellophane Man." It's easy to see Ray enjoys what he does. Thanks Ray for a great show. We meet the 2nd Saturday of the month at the South Clubhouse at 3 pm. Caregivers and spouses are welcome.
