happy cookers' club On Fri., May 24, at 11 am in the South Clubhouse, we will be at the meeting called "Semi-Homemade and My Favorite Kitchen Gadget." Members will be bringing and sharing their favorite recipes that use ingredients that make cooking less involved. For instance, we can now buy already chopped onions and green peppers packaged and frozen from the supermarket produce department. Or how about the new product - a combination of Cool Whip and frosting ready for spreading on cupcakes? Did you know that liquid egg whites are now available to save cooks from that nasty job of separating the yolks from the whites? Just open these remarkable products and cooks are ready to overwhelm their families at dinner time. Voilá! My favorite kitchen gadget becomes a forever item in a cook's dream kitchen. It might be a gadget that squeezes the perfect amount of lime juice without a mess or a pineapple karaoke & sing along We are forming a Sun Lakes Karaoke Group to jam uke honor and carry on the Don McKinnon legacy. We meet at the Scherer Senior Center in Yucaipa at 1st and B Street on Wednesdays 9 - 11 am for the regular class. This is a great opportunity for the talented vocalists and music enthusiasts to perform and have fun with their friends. You are invited to express your support and interest by contacting any member of the steering committee gizmo that drops just the perfect amount of pancake batter on the hot grill. Mary Belle Clark has a gadget that makes square eggs and she's going to share it. These are the items and recipes that make for "Happy Cookers" and our group is always looking for ways to enhance dishes and astonish our guests and families at dinner time. Membership is $25 a year. Our regular general meeting is held on the second Wednesday of the month in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom at 10 am. Membership is $15 per year. All residents of Sun Lakes are welcome to join. Do you want to serve on a committee? There are many areas of interest in the Garden Club and new volunteers are always welcome. To find out what opportunities are available as a member, just ask us. It doesn't cost anything and you aren't obligated by asking. SPRING FASHION SHOW & LUNCHEON: We hope you bought your ticket to this event. It is always a sellout. Our theme is "Once Upon An Apron" in honor of the Banning Centennial Celebration. You can participate by wearing an apron with your outfit for a day. Special aprons will be acknowledged on the stage. Judges will select 10 aprons to be shown. If your apron has a history, please tell the judges. There will be a modeling "spoof " by the Stardust Dancers. The cost is $20 pp. If you would like a ticket please call our reservation chairperson, Betty Beidelman at 769-6200. SEES CANDY: Thanks to everyone who supported our Easter candy sales. MISSION INN MAY 21: The Mission Inn has a colorful history to discover on a 75 minute guided walking tour. The museum itself is a self guided tour. PLANT A ROW: The Plant A Row program has one planter available at Dysart Park. The food planted and raised at Dysart Park by the Plant A Row program is donated to our local Pass area kitchens such as Carol's Kitchen and Table of Plenty. DONATIONS FOR CHARITY: Please continue to donate all the items that you have so generously supplied to this program. Garden Club members and our community have donated 300 pairs of eyeglasses to the Lion's Club who in turn give them to people who are in need of glasses and cannot afford them. SUMMER FRUIT PICKING: After enjoying all you can eat of that wonderful fruit growing on your trees in your yards, how about calling the "Gleaning Team" from the Garden Club? Let them come pick that remaining fruit to share with our local kitchens that feed the hungry. Please don't just let it fall to the ground uneaten.
