beginning bridge Beginning Bridge meets on Mondays in the Main Clubhouse from 12:30 - 3:30 pm, and is free to all residents. It is not necessary to have a partner or to sign up in advance. Info., Lynn at 769-1868. duplicate for fun The Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club meets on Tuesdays at 6 pm in the North Clubhouse. The game does not earn Master Points, but it allows players to enjoy the experience of duplicate bridge without the competitive stress that sometimes occurs in sanctioned games. For players new to chess, we recommend learning the fundamentals of the game before engaging in play with others. There are excellent tutorials on YouTube and throughout the Internet which will give you the needed skills to begin playing. Lois, 769-2099. the friendship club Join us as we welcome Michelle Murlin, musical theatre singer, on May 19, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Michelle started dancing and singing lessons at age four and naturally progressed into a rewarding career in musical theatre by her early teens. Michelle attended Carnegie-Mellon University and Point Park University (both in Pittsburgh) and graduated with a degree in Musical Theatre/Dance. She worked at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood. Michelle was also lead singer for the BMG recording artists group "Fem 2 Fem" and can also be heard on many TV movies, documentaries and feature films. Michelle is most proud of her theatre background, having performed in a wide variety of productions, ranging from the opera "Candide" to the rock musical "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Her favorite roll was Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls" but is most remembered as Grizabella in "Cats" and Fantine in "Les Miserables." Michelle is also remembered as Reuben's wife in the Original Broadway Cast of "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" starring Michael Damian in 1993. She was also in the original Broadway cast recording of that show, available in most record stores. For the past 15 years, Michelle has been performing in the cruise industry. She started out doing production shows and it didn't take her long to put her own act together, which she has successfully been performing now for 11 years. Our Annual Potluck will be Wed., May 15, at 6 pm at the South Clubhouse. All members and their guests are invited. Local watercolor artist Suni will demonstrate her technique at the next General Meeting on Sun., May 19, at 2 pm at the South Clubhouse. The meeting is open to all residents, even if you are not ready to join the Art League but would like to find out more. Suni will also be the instructor for the June Monday classes. Watercolor artist Bhadraji (Bud) Jayatilaka will be the instructor for the May Monday classes which begin on May 6. In addition to his artwork, he is also known for his music and writing. Bud's watercolor class will be held in the Arts and Crafts Room at the Main Clubhouse from 9 am to 12 noon on May 6, 13, 20 and 27 and is for all levels of experience. Art League members will be given priority in signing up for the class, but non-members may be put on a waiting list. The fee for the class is $40 for the month for members and $45 for non-members. First, second and third place winners are chosen by those at the meeting. The Best of Show is chosen by the demo artist at that meeting. All Sun Lakes residents are invited to join the Art League.
