young at heart Here we are in May already, with our Mexican Fiesta right around the corner, on May 18. This event filled up very quickly, as do many of our functions. Due to the popularity of this and several other events, be sure to get your checks in as soon as possible to avoid being disappointed. We make every effort to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend our parties social singles at the North and South Clubhouses by seating 10 people at each table. As you know, we are dark in June and July, but hope to meet up with all our Young At Heart friends for the Music Under the Stars evenings on the driving range and veranda. A fun summertime party will take place Sun., Aug. 18, at the Main Clubhouse pool. Come and enjoy a barbecue of hamburgers and hot dogs with all the condiments, provided by Young At Heart. The party is free of charge. Just make sure to call Cheryl Chapman at 845-3018 or Sandy Richman at 769-7595 to let them know you will be attending so we can get a count of how many will participate. The cut-off date to sign up with Cheryl or Sandy is Aug. 11. Please bring a side dish of your choice; fruit, beans, salads, and the like. No desserts. Don't forget to BYOB, but NO GLASS of any kind will be allowed around the pool area. Side dishes must be barbershop chorus Have you performed in: Glee Club? Chorus? Church? The shower? If you can carry a tune, come sing with us… we want YOU. Sing with us in chorus, small groups, or quartets in Barbershop Harmony. Previous singing experience is desirable but not necessary. The party will start at 4 Pm. Our annual Black Tie event is scheduled for Sept. 28, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom and is open to ALL Sun Lakes residents. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 pm, with dinner following at 6:30 pm. Sign up for this very elegant evening by Sept. 23, at the latest, with checks made payable to Young At Heart and deliver to Michele Walter at 4713 Skyview Circle. The cost is $30 for YAH members and $35 for non-members. Friends who wish to sit together must submit all checks together. Seating will be at TABLES OF EIGHT ONLY; NO EXCEPTIONS. Music for the evening will be by The Skyline Express. Young At Heart continues to make generous contributions to worthy causes in the Banning Pass area. Two of the latest recipients are the Banning Pass Children's Theater and the Playhouse Bowl. Our May dinner meeting is Fri., May 10, at 6 pm in the South Clubhouse. Doors open at 5:30 pm. "Feliz Cinco De Mayo…" we're all Latino on May 5! (even though we meet May 10) La Casita, that wonderful Mexican restaurant, will provide us with a delicious dinner of beef and cheese tacos, cheese enchiladas, chili rellano, rice, beans and flan for dessert. Sun Lakes' Singing Caballero, Ed Avina, will be singing Latin songs and the wonderful standards we all love. All this for $13 pp! Guests are $15. If you live in Sun Lakes, you may come as a guest one time only, and then you must join the club for $10. Guests living outside of Sun Lakes are welcome at $15 pp. Due to the desirability of our club, we can only accommodate 99 people in the South Clubhouse for our dinner meetings, so your attendance will be on a first come first serve basis. If you have signed up for the dinner meeting and are unable to attend, PLEASE call Betty McMillion so she may give your reservation to someone on the wait list. You will receive your money back. Cultural Alliance is featuring fine art, crafts, chalk art, garden art, art galleries, wine garden, music, food… Downtown Banning. May 5: Sunday Brunch at the Clubhouse, 11 am. Join your friends. Call Addie at 845-7810. May 5: "Southern Hospitality," Leave at 1 pm. Footlighters, Redlands. $15 or less. Sisters plot to convince a salsa plant representative that they actually do celebrate, "Fayro Days" (whatever) every year. Fun and laughs abound. AND, Sun Lakes' own Harriet Briant has a pivotal role! Dinner at The Spaghetti Factory. May 12: Mothers' Day Pot Luck Lunch at Barb's, 12 pm. Bring your favorite dish and be with your friends if you can't be with your kids. House is small… so maximum of 15. May 14: Movie – South Clubhouse – "Sarah's Key," $2 pp, 2:30 pm. In modern-day Paris, a journalist finds her life becoming entwined with a young girl whose family was torn apart during the notorious Nazi roundup in 1942. This is a wonderful, wonderful movie, but very disturbing. You will not come out singing and dancing. Popcorn, donut holes and coffee. May 16: Thurs. Crazy 8 Dinner, 5:30 pm. Again we are so fortunate to be able to go to the beautiful Redlands Bowl to enjoy an evening of music with our friends in this breathtaking venue.
