Happy Father's Day to all our dads, stepdads, pet dads, and those who were like a dad to someone. We hope you will find a special way to spend your day! Being stuck at home is not ideal, but here are ways to make dealing with self-isolation from COVID-19 just a little bit more fun for you and the members of your household. It will help the time pass and make some wonderful memories. You will probably have to work with what you have on hand, since so many stores are closed. But with a little creativity, we are sure you can make most of these ideas work. Here are some ideas to try out, as we wait for the Clubhouse to open: • Complete a puzzle or do a crossword. • Get out an old instrument and practice — hopefully, you have nice neighbors. • Watch all the movies you have wanted to watch for years, even the exceptionally long ones. • Meditate. Try lying down with your eyes closed, palms up and while focusing on your breath. Or spend 20 minutes sitting cross-legged and repeat a soothing word to yourself in your head. How about OHCC, OHCC, OHCC…? • Have a space in your home where all the Tupperware goes? Organize it and match lids to containers- you will have more lids than containers. • Coloring books: They are not just for kids. Be sure to wear your glasses to stay between the lines. Or don't. You do you. There is a coloring page in this magazine on page 4. • Throw out all your too-old makeup and products. (Tip: most liquid products have a small symbol on them noting expirations, whatever bottles you have at home.) • Have a taste testing event, trying out all the wines you have on hand, and record the journey. • Download Duolingo, or a similar app, and teach yourself a foreign language. Pig Latin "ig-pay, atin-Lay," it might come in handy because none of us are traveling right now. • Organize your junk drawer. Rearrange your sock drawer. Did you know you can make a face mask out of a sock? • Learn a new dance style via YouTube, from belly dancing to salsa. YouTube is amazing for learning just about anything. • Talk to your plants. Remember that was big in the 60s and 70s? We were talking to our pet rocks too! • Stretch and work on flexibility, do not try the splits — you may never get up! • Get lots of sleep! But remember a planned routine, for each day, is best for your health. • Call an old friend, send a card, or cook a meal for a neighbor you would like to know better, you have all day so don't delay! The Clubhouse is looking great. Staff have moved the temporary reception office back to their 'old digs,' at the Front Reception Desk and into the Event Coordinator's office. Our temporary office, in the newly named "Majorca Room," worked well for most. But under the current guidelines, there is a bit of a challenge ahead of us to keep safe and in compliance. We are all looking forward to coming together again, we wish we had more information to pass on. This fast- moving target continues to evolve, and we appreciate your patience. It is looking like our annual Fourth of July party will be postponed until next year. The "Concert on the Green" is on the books and the band has been secured, but the event hangs in the balance, until some of the restrictions are lifted. But behind the scenes, just like our government, there are dedicated Board Members, other concerned residents, and staff working together to make this transition to our 'new normal.' Word has it that there could be an "Emergence Party," in the future — and we know how OHCC loves a good party, right? Just ask our Doo Wop Club. Can't wait to be back in business! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2020 |21 Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. "I gave my father $100 and said 'Buy yourself something that will make your life easier.' So he went out and bought a present for my mother." ~ Rita Rudner
