| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2020 | 13 Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Garden Club This is the second month in a row that the Garden Club has no activities to report as a result of COVID-19. It was necessary to cancel the OHCC Garden Club Spring Tour of Gardens. However, our Club Co-President Jeanne Brantman recently took photos of some of the residents' homes that were scheduled to be included in the Garden Tour. So please enjoy the photos. We may have more to show you next month. They will also be posted on our website. Sign in to www. oceanhillscountryclub.com, click on "Social Clubs," click on "Garden" to view them. Gardening Tips Thanks to the rain, our gardens are looking very good this year. Here are some gardening tips in the event you plan to do more planting. It is suggested that prior to planting any flowering plant, whether annuals, bulbs or perennials, you make a mixture of one cup of Epsom Salts and three cups of Bone Meal. Sprinkle a pinch of this mixture into each planting hole. It's a power-packed treat that will get the flowers off to a great start. Perennials should not be crowded when planted. Another suggestion is, after they're planted, sprinkle a little black pepper and pre-sifted flour into and onto the soil to keep whiteflies and other garden thugs away. Worm castings also work well. If you need help with succulents, check out this website: debraleebaldwin.com. Debra is an expert and has been a guest speaker at monthly meetings here. June is the month for warm-season annuals. If you didn't get them planted in the last month or two, do it now before the really hot months of July and August. Choices include petunias, lobelia, verbena, marigold, cosmos, and impatiens and begonia plants. Upcoming Events The Garden Club is scheduled to hold its annual Plant Sale on Sat., Sept. 19, in conjunction with the OHCC Flea Market. Hopefully, that will happen. If it does take place, we ask our Garden Club members to donate any plants, pots, garden supplies or yard ornaments you no longer need. We are in need of pots of all sizes, especially larger ones. So please set aside any of those items and hopefully we can go ahead with that fundraising event. We hope you all continue to be well as we pass through this difficult time. Maybe when this newsletter is published, conditions will have improved.
