44 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2020 | The Friendship Club plans to bring back great entertainment to Sun Lakes in July (fingers crossed), with The Lindy Sisters and The Great Omar, a magician/comedian. If we still need to focus on social distancing then, chairs in the audience will be spaced farther apart, and masks will be utilized. The important thing is that when clubs in Sun Lakes reopen, support from club members will be very important to keep the fabulous shows coming. We encourage members to renew if they haven't already, and new members to join now. Tickets for each show are $20 for members, $25 for non-resident guests. Doors open at 6 pm, show begins at 7 pm. Make checks out to Friendship Club, and deliver them to 5168 Rio Bravo Drive. For cancellations and information, call Pat at (951) 845-3789 or Leeann at (909) -973-3143. The Friendship Club Yiddish Culture Club Some areas of the country are starting to "open up" with continued precautions and social distancing along with the orders of the day to wear masks. We all pray for a vaccine as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, our club like so many others, had to pass on some very exciting and interesting speakers this year. We will reset some great events for next year. Events are still subject to cancellation based on the virus statistics and government orders. Should we be allowed to gather, the Yiddish Club will try and move onto its next popular event, the yearly Ice Cream Social. Mark your calendars for Wed., June 10, 7 pm, at the South Clubhouse. This event is free for members and $5 for non- members. The fee is collected at the door and no reservations are required. Just show up with a big happy ice cream smile! The club has held this annual event for years. Everyone seems to enjoy a great ice cream social! Watch for updates about events on the Sun Lakes website and Good Day Sun Lakes. We hope that you might find these curious, but possible facts interesting: Ice cream was first eaten in China in 618-97AD. First flavor: 4th century B.C., the Roman emperor Nero had servants go into the mountains to collect snow used to make a frozen dessert flavored with honey, nuts, and fruit toppings. Who eats the most ice cream? One online article indicated it was New Zealand. The World's tallest ice cream cone was nine feet. Joke alert: Did you hear they passed a law banning ice cream? Don't worry. It was ruled un-cone- stitutional! It is time to mail in your membership dues. New member forms are found on the Sun Lakes website. Otherwise, send in your check and membership will get you a form at a later date. It is still $15 per year, per person. Please mail or drop off check to Diane Berley at 753 Torrey Pines, phone (818) 943-6457 for any membership questions. The Yiddish club is an all-inclusive club. No Yiddish is required. All beliefs are welcome! Any program questions? Direct to Diane Stone at (951) 769-0130. Be safe everyone. The Yiddish Culture Club welcomes all homeowners of any denomination Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Handyman Services Call Today!
