| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2020 | 5 Okay everybody, here's the deal. For a long time Sun Lakers have helped the needy each year by attending the events of Charity Week. This year, Charity Week has been canceled and that's not going to happen. But our charitable recipients are still in need and the people they help are in greater need than ever before. What are we going to do about it? A charitable event is being planned for later in the year that will help provide funds. We are aware that one event will not begin to approach the amount of funds we distribute each year. Therefore, the best answer lies with the people of Sun Lakes. We are appealing to Sun Lakers to donate funds to help during this critical time. For years we have distributed a hundred thousand dollars to the needy in the San Gorgonio Pass Area. The recipients of the charities are abused wives or husbands and children, the boys and girls clubs, the sick and ill of our hospital, our veterans, poor and needy seniors, and so on. There are two dozen groups that depend on us for part of their income. They are very judicious in their programming and use of their funds to help others. They have satisfied all of our requirements to receive your donated monies. This year we have nothing to give them! Each year there are hundreds of Sun Lakers volunteering their time and energy to stage the events during Charity Week. As soon as Charity Week is ended, they start the planning for next year. That is dedication! Of course, that is what Sun Lakers do; they finish their job and walk away with their heads high and are thankful they can still do it. Think about the events of yesteryear — the tournaments, breakfasts, drawings, auctions, dinner, and dances — and imagine you are still attending. Please open your wallets and write us a check. Just think of all of the money you saved by not being able to shop and travel the past few months. We are proud and thankful our long confinement has resulted in a coronavirus-free Sun Lakes. Now it is time to help others again, which we are really good at doing. Make your check out to Sun Lakes Charitable Trust and mail to Sun Lakes Charity, 850 Country Club Drive, Banning, CA 92220 or drop it off at the reception desk in the Main Clubhouse. Thank you for your help! ~ Joe Formino, Founding Board Member of the Sun Lakes Country Club Charitable Trust. Sun Lakes Charitable Trust Needs Your Help! As California entered day 35 of the "Stay at Home" policy, it was just another day in the neighborhood. This was not so for District 7, along with some friends from other districts. District 7 decided it was time to thank the community for all they have done and continue to do for us during this pandemic. District 7 Delegate, Rich Morales, put together a thank you caravan to our Front Line Heroes who are fighting the battle against COVID-19. He set up a route and let them know when we would be there. All participants wore masks although they never left their vehicles. A total of 27 cars met at 9:30 in the Albertsons parking lot, where they formed a caravan with flashers on, and off they went down Highland Springs with horns blaring. The first stop was the Banning Municipal Building, City Hall, and the Police Department. We were met with applauding workers standing outside, wearing masks, waving, and taking pictures of the caravan. The police cars gave a salute with their lights and sirens. The next stop was the San Gorgonio Hospital, where we again received a warm and heartfelt welcome. The health care professionals stood and waved as the caravan went around the hospital grounds with their thank you signs. The hospital personnel held their own thank you sign for the Sun Lakers. Then off we went to the local Stater Bros Market where we were greeted by the store manager and grateful but busy workers. The last stop was our own Urgent Care on Highland Springs where we were again greeted by health care professionals outside clapping, waving and taking pictures of the caravan. This shows us that kindness is our very own fairy dust, giving people the ability to soar and not just fly. This caravan was truly an act of kindness, gratitude and a reminder that we are all in this together. Well done District 7. A Caravan of Thanks
