18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2020 | So summer will be beginning soon but oh so different than previous years here at Sun Lakes. June usually meant that we or our neighbors were getting ready for summer trips – weddings, graduations, seeing family. But this year most of us don't know what our travel plans for this month are; worse yet I bet that many had plans of flights or cruises but had to cancel them. It is sad but we will get through this. Our health is most important. Our SL golfers can at least get out on the courses for exercise and good, fresh air. I hope everyone has taken this time to get back into walking, bicycling, or even yoga at home! For our mental health we are fortunate to have access to our own up-to-date news source: Good Day Sun Lakes at Channel 97. The schedule for June will be the same as published in previous Lifestyles and also available on Sunlakescc.com. On the "News & Views" segment you will find "Quarantine Got Talent" with resident input. For added diversity the District Delegate segment and Master Board segment will be replaced with recordings from Sun Lakes Playhouse or The Follies. We need more talent from our residents to spotlight! Please send in home videos, poems, short stories, or a photo with a story to go with it to Gooddaysunlakes@gmail.com. Thanks to those who have already contributed. We will get back to normal soon. The clubhouses will open, as will the pools. We will need to have updated information about keeping ourselves, as well as our fellow Sun Lakers, safe. Clubs and groups — when you know that you can once again meet — send an announcement to Gooddaysunlakes@gmail.com to get this info out on channel 97. Sun Lakes Advisory Committee Reports We are happy to see more Advisory Committees submitting articles about the important work they are doing in Sun Lakes. Our goal is to have all active Advisory Committees share their news here each month. Thank you in advance for everyone's participation! Three experiences Carolyn Wright thoroughly enjoyed: the movies, going out to eat, and socializing. Those who knew her and shared any one of those things with her, knows how much she will be missed. The most amazing facet of Carolyn's life is that so many of us thought WE were her best friend. She never let on who was No. 1. But each of us was certain we were it. She passed away on Saturday, April 24, just a few days after her 77th birthday. Have you met people here at Sun Lakes who are excited to be on any number of different committees? Carolyn was one of the leaders in volunteerism. Some of the committees she participated in were the Recreation Dept., including chairperson; TOPS, as treasurer; Charity Week events, Fashion Show and Breakfast gathering; Happy Cookers, membership chair for six years; Garden Club, special events; International Dancers, helping in many numerous ways; and a respected member of the Lifestyles Advisory Committee. She also had a special relationship with Ranae Carmichael, Recreation Coordinator with the Recreation Department, where she was a faithful member of the Escort Committee, thoroughly enjoying day trips to many wonderful places, making sure everyone was greeted with a smile. Carolyn was an active member of the Center for Spiritual Living in Beaumont, enjoyed CAST players as a greeter; volunteered at the Kiwanis Club, never saying no to any of their requests; and a volunteer at San Gorgonio Hospital Gift Shop for eight years with an amazing 2077 volunteer hours. One last love of her life… her beloved Peaches. To say she will be missed is an understatement. Paradise just received someone who will keep it organized, as long as she gets lots of hugs. Lifestyles Advisory: Tribute to Carolyn Wright Communications Bingo Advisory BINGO PLAYERS… Boy! Do we miss you! As you know, our state is beginning the tedious process of reopening and social distancing will probably continue for some time to come. But you can be assured that we are prepared to welcome you back as the guidelines will allow. Just remember that when we return, we will have lots of cash prizes and door prizes to win! Until then stay safe, save your BINGO money, and brings lots of friends when we get back together again to play. Any questions? Call (951) 769-4579 (Toni) or (951) 797-3817 (Karen).
