By Sandra Day, Chair Just a few weeks ago I sat down and wrote an article for the April View magazine inviting everyone to attend the New Resident Mixer Event. These events are hosted by the Welcome Committee as a way of introducing new residents to life here, helping them to get better acquainted with their neighbors and life as we know it here on "the Island." As you know, that mixer was just one of the many events and meetings that were canceled due to the unexpected closure of all SDV activities because of the COVID-19 pandemic that so rudely descended upon us earlier this year. That certainly was not in our plan! Maybe you felt like we did, thinking we would go crazy if we weren't able to maintain our usual active and entertaining lifestyles. Life here in Solera Diamond Valley has never been dull. I find a common thread present in almost everyone who has chosen to make SDV their home. The desire to stay active, be creative and build and maintain friendships is what permeates all that we do here. This community is a beautiful cross-section of individuals with diverse life experiences and many interesting talents and occupations. When seen as a whole, our community is a tapestry of colors and textures which is an organic work of art, moving and changing daily but always a beautiful thing to observe. That's what makes it so fun meeting new people and building relationships and why I enjoy living here. The Welcome Committee loves meeting new residents and helping to make it easier for them to settle in here; although we haven't been able to do that for months. When activities were halted, some of you received a letter from us explaining that our person-to-person meetings would have to wait a while. We also provided you with some pages of information that could be helpful in getting settled here in the area. We hope you found that helpful. If you are a new resident, who may have moved in during this shut-down, the Welcome Committee wants you to know that we are looking forward to the day, we hope soon, when we will once again be able to meet with you in person. Until that day arrives, please let us know if we may be of help to you in getting acquainted with your new community. Please feel free to email us at SDVwelcome@outlook.com By Melissa Valona The question we are all wondering is what will our new normal be for Lifestyle events? While we are all waiting for the facility to reopen the Recreation Advisory Committee and I are working on some community activities that will keep everyone safe. This will be a learning process for us all as we adjust to the new rules and guidelines set by the CDC for public safety. I personally am very disappointed that we are missing out on so many awesome events this year, but then I remind myself it will be that much better when we get back to our original ways. Keeps your eyes open for an email blast announcing a date for a shred day. We will also be having a food drive on June 6 for the Hemet pantry. Details on these events will be issued shortly and posted on the website. Please feel free to contact me with any ideas you may have while we are still on lock down. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon! Welcome Committee LIFESTYLE REPORT SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2020 5
