18 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2020 By Theresa Rossetti, Resident The rules of our association give us lots of information on tenants. At least one tenant must be 55 or older and the lease agreement must be for a minimum of six months. So, what do you do if you find yourself with tenants who don't obey the rules? Do we have recourse through the courts? Let me explain. Our first summer here, we discovered after the fact that mourning doves had not only built a nest in a small planter outside our back slider, but they were expecting babies. We were so freaked by this that we didn't use the slider for months, so as to not disturb the family. This was rather inconvenient. Eventually they moved out. We cleaned out the nest and scrubbed the planter. Three days later they came back and were quite upset we had destroyed their home. Fast forward to this year. Nest building on the shelf of the same baker's rack began. We decided to assert our right as homeowners by continuing to go in and out. They didn't care. Eventually, twins were born and grew like weeds. I named them Jack and Ginger. Then one day they were gone. We worried that the babies were too young to leave the nest. Four or five days later, back they came! Or were they new tenants? Relatives of the other ones? Who knows? Before we knew it, it looked like Mama was settling in for some egg laying. Or was she? We haven't seen them in days. Maybe they were only house hunting and found one they liked better. We've decided to live and let live. Please don't tell the Board about our illegal tenants. Shhh! Please Don't Tell! By Kathy Townley, Resident An SDV mask project started while I was helping a "non-sewer" friend who works for the Riverside Department of Health. She wanted to make a bunch of masks for her staff of Inspectors who interface with the public on a daily basis. Via email I called on the Quilter's Club to participate in this project. The response was immediate, and we whipped up about 30 masks. After those, we transitioned to making them for hospital medical personnel. There were just so many people dying worldwide and I wanted to help as much as possible. The quilters felt the same way and made and distributed 190 masks to local hospitals and nursing home in approximately three weeks. Many of them not only made the masks but donated more elastic, flannel and cotton fabric as well. I felt we could do even more, so I sent out a Sue's Blast to all the residents of SDV asking for their help. The response was amazing! People without machines were hand sewing masks, people lent machines to others to use and a donated a lot more supplies! Total masks donated number 410 as of May 3rd, with more kits still out and more kits to go. The response has been so wonderful! Editor's note: a number of other residents have been making masks for family, friends, donations and for sale. Thanks to all who sewed for safety! Masks? We're On It!
