| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2020 | 3 From the President's Desk By Sandra Moyer Unbelievable, but we are halfway through the year. A year so far full of life-changing circumstances and sometimes chaos. As we move forward, we need to be patient and work together. As restrictions are eased, we want to re-open our facilities but in a safe and fiscally- responsible manner by following the governmental guidelines and doing what is best for Sun Lakes. As we open more facilities, we look at three main factors in As we open more facilities, we look at three main factors in opening: opening: 1. If opening such facilities is permitted by local and state governing authorities. 2. If we can comply with applicable safety guidelines and regulate limited resident use. 3. If the HOA can afford the expense of additional common area maintenance (sanitation procedures and personal protection equipment for staff ). State and local stay-at-home orders evolve on a day-to-day basis. Therefore, Management and the Board review their websites daily to understand what is and is not permitted. The following are the additional openings along with guidelines. Please note, some will not be at full capacity and hours will be shortened. This is due to the factors mentioned above. Also, due to the added cost factor for maintenance, if attendance or patronage is not sufficient to cover the cost, the Board may limit hours or close down the activities until guidelines are relaxed. Facility opening guidelines: Facility opening guidelines: 1. Guests permitted starting July 1. 2. Libraries are open at all clubhouses, hours and days vary — please check website or Good Day Sun Lakes. 3. Pools are open from 8 am to 8 pm. Must show ID Cards. 4. Pool Room: 10 am to 6 pm daily. Only two tables available – no more than four in a room. Check in at reception desk- ID Cards required - one hour sessions - 15-minute cleaning between sessions. 5. Restaurant: many tables removed to address social distancing. There is a 12-page COVID-19 guideline book utilized in this process. Restaurant & Sandwedge, days & hours: Restaurant & Sandwedge, days & hours: • Restaurant & Sandwedge, Wednesday & Thursday - 11 am to 3 pm ONLY. Reservations required. • Restaurant & Sandwedge, Friday & Saturday, 4:30 to 8 pm ONLY. Reservations required. • Curbside To Go, Wednesday through Sunday 11 am to 6 pm. Guidelines for Restaurant & Sandwedge: Guidelines for Restaurant & Sandwedge: 1. Must have ID cards. 2. Your temperature will be taken with a touchless thermometer 3. Must wear mask until seated – no more than six at a table. 4. Limit your time to 1 hour and 15 minutes so staff may clean your area before next seating, allowing us to serve more guests. 5. No walking around and socializing at other tables. 6. NO CASH PERMITTED. Must pay by house account or credit card. There is a lot of information to digest. Please keep this article where you can go over it when need be. We are trying to get back to some form of normalcy while staying safe. Again, the Restaurant needs to be utilized to keep open. If numbers warrant, we can open the Ballroom as well, or if not well used, we will again have to look at cutting back or closing until further restrictions are lifted. Thank you for your understanding and support. Spectrum Contract: Spectrum Contract: We have not announced any final decision as of this writing. After we received the final draft, we discovered clauses had been added that the Board and our legal counsel could not and would not accept. One such clause was that they could drop any channel at any time without having a replacement channel or offering compensation. Another major issue was a clause which stated if Sun Lakes canceled the contract before the end of the fifth year, we had to pay 83 percent of each month remaining of that five-year period. This is a $10 million dollar contract for five years. Obviously, the Board couldn't consider approving such a clause. Therefore, we informed them that we would just renew our existing contract which expires Sept. 1 of 2020. We are waiting to hear what our rate will be going forward. If they drop our existing plan, we will inform you immediately so that you can make individual plans. Also, if they drop the plan before Sept.1 of this year, we will remove the monthly fee from your HOA bill for the affected time. Saying for the month: Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you lived and lived well."
