Theatre Arts 12 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2020 | Woodchucks As this Woodchuck article is being written, there is hope that we will soon be back messing around with wood… planning, drawing, sawing, drilling, routing, assembling, and sweeping up sawdust. All of us have missed the woodshop, as the honey-do list grows and our projects have remained only dreams. We anticipate soon being able to serve OHCC by providing our security window rods, as well as community projects like the new Information Center at the Clubhouse. The necessary virus lockdown has delayed the Woodchuck-elves from creating the fanciful toy creations for the children of Camp Pendleton. We will be working overtime to make up for the lost hours. We Woodchuckians have always understood that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. And so, we shall! As of this writing, the Clubhouse is still closed and we have no room assignments. Members will be informed of any programming by email as events come up. Until this is all over, all in-person performances are on hold. Let this be a reminder that the Theatre Arts Club stands shoulder-to-shoulder (and six feet apart) with the staff and residents in keeping each other healthy. Because the Clubhouse is closed, Actors 'Workshop and Readers' Theater has ceased gathering in public, but is open for new members. For information, please contact Sally Benton by phone (602) 228- 7541 or email moki2@cox.net. MEMBERS ONLY! Abravanel Hall is closed, but the "show must go on" and OHCC Theatre Arts is offering their members Zoom play readings every other month. We started in April with Act I of Ladies First by Anita Simons (resident) and Lojo Simon directed by Patricia Moran Collins. On May 27, Act II was well-received with a Zoom performance. The next Zoom play reading will be Couples by Sean Grennan, with a flexible cast of seven and expected Zoom broadcast in July or August. Auditions will be held in June via Zoom and are open to the entire OHCC community. Look for details in your tube for audition information. If a non- member is cast in the play, he/ she must become a member of Theater Arts ($10). Details for the above and any others referenced here will be sent to members via email, so please keep eyes and ears open. Virtual board meetings were held via Zoom May 7, at 2:30 pm and June 5, at 2 pm. Your Board discussed current issues facing our club and potential presentations. General meetings are usually held the first Monday at 7 pm in Abravanel Hall. Please check your email for exact location, date and time. Only members will be informed of upcoming live events. See how much bang you get for your $10 annual dues. Join Theatre Arts and participate in all of our entertainment and activities. Leave your check in our envelope at the front desk when the Clubhouse reopens! We will accept membership checks at our events/activities, so don't miss out.
