Welcome to the month of July and the summer has launched itself, with some of the most beautiful weather anyone could have ever imagined. The Racquet Courts, the Bocce Courts, and the pool are open, and we have gone to a reservation system almost overnight. As we continue to abide to the guidelines, the reservation system was implemented to handle the overwhelming response to the openings. It was difficult to handle the number of initial phone calls for making the reservations. In this way, residents can go online and make their reservation any time of day. Given the need to sanitize the areas regularly, the staff has been working on a systematic approach to accomplish our new duty. This, of course, is unprecedented and we are getting our feet wet each day. Our thanks to the Racquet Club, the Bocce Club, and the Swim Club for assisting us in this new endeavor. Everyone has been extremely helpful as we navigate these untested waters. If anyone should acquire assistance in making these arrangements, please call the Clubhouse Front Desk at(760) 758-8772. At the last Master Board meeting in June, the Recreation Department was tasked to put a Fourth of July Parade together for the community. At this writing, the degree of participation has yet to be determined. It is our hope that we get enough interested participants to make the parade a success. So, by the time this edition is delivered, we hope to have informed the community of our plans, whether it makes the calendar, or not. This would be the first year in the community's history that a celebration has not gone forth, so we will do our best to make this happen. We certainly hope that OHCC will give Sat., July 4, a respectful salute by celebrating the freedom we so enjoy! Despite the tumultuous times we live in right now, the love and admiration for those who fought for our freedom continues. The Clubhouse renovation is nearing completion and the clean-up begins. The new floors, the windows, the rooms, and the ducts are being vacuumed, cleaned, and polished for the grand return. The OHCC Living magazine has survived during this unprecedented time and this can only be attributed to those who have continued to write, compose, and submit articles. The pictures submitted have been exceptional and our publisher, Image Up, has done an excellent job in producing an outstanding publication, despite the challenges. We appreciate all the resident volunteers who have been our faithful distributors, their names are listed on the back inside cover. With gloves, masks, and remaining socially distant, the caravan of eight has exited the HOA parking lot, each month, to make their tube deliveries — always with a smile. We will be working, diligently, to get this show on the road. Instructors are inquiring when they will be back. Tri- City Medical Center has posted two videos on Channel 1960, in the interim, until they can come back and provide their lectures. Residents are missing the pop-up food services in the Overflow Parking Lot. The Concert and Dancing on the Green is on hold until the county guidelines are loosened. Then, comes the 2021 reservation process. We are as anxious as you are to get the Clubhouse activities going again. The Clubhouse is quiet without the members chatting, laughing, and carrying on. But we are hearing of great things that are happening within the community, for example: the five mini parades called "The Parades of Joy," that maneuvered through the streets bringing encouragement. Neighbors continue to share books as libraries have remained closed, making food for each other, and shopping for those who are not able to do so. They say there is a "casserole brigade," that takes care for all the single men in the Village. Is that true or is that just a myth? Inquiring minds want to know? Good, certainly, does come out of every difficult situation. We are all looking forward to the day when the Clubhouse re-opens, welcoming the membership back, and the hallways are, again, filled with laughter. Happy Fourth of July to everyone!
