24 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2020 | Papercrafting Club The Papercrafting Club has been zooming along. Two of our members, Karin Barnes and Lorraine Kleeman, spent quite a few hours figuring out how to lead a Zoom meeting with two cameras and then brought a few more of us in to help figure out the bugs and clean up the process. We need two cameras because we have the usual camera for the speaker or leader and another camera to show our workspace on the table so that members can see what the presenter is doing when we learn new papercrafting techniques. The presenter makes the project along with the participants so they can see the process in real time. The trick of the second camera is to mount it in the correct position so that members can see the entire workspace and also see the presenter's hands and tools. I think we all use our phones as the second camera and we have come up with a variety of ways to position it. Some of us use tripods, some use books, and one of us uses stacked boxes. We are not fussy, whatever gets the job done! There is a lot of laughing and learning going on in these sessions but we are all looking forward to the day when we can once again get 12-15 ladies in the same room with paper, scissors, and glue to create drop-dead gorgeous creations. As summer gets into full swing, we are still here – sewing, knitting, crocheting, and ZOOMING! The Sew and Chat Group (Tuesdays and Fridays) has been connecting through Zoom for a while now, and though it's not quite the same, we laugh, tell bad jokes, and show what's under or on our needles and hooks. The group is typically 12-16 friends, and lasts about 40 minutes. We had our first official meeting in a long time in June, and will do so again in July on the first Thursday of the month, at 9:30 am…just like our regular meetings when we were gathering in person. There were 32 attendees Zooming, and it was great to see so many of our friends, and catch up a bit, plus do some necessary business of the Club. Our activities are starting to gear up. The "Comfort Quilts" we create for Camp Pendleton children is up and running again. And Christmas goodies are again on our radar… with stockings and cradle quilts for the holiday season percolating along. "When the tough get sewing…" We look forward to being together again soon, meanwhile, keep wearing those masks, wash your hands, and remember the six-foot rule… it will be over so much sooner if we all do our part. If anyone would like to participate in our activities and is not sure of who to reach out to during this time, please call Chris Sanderson (760) 726-4634 for more information. Also, please visit our website, lovingly updated by Terri Eckhardt, http:// ohccsewing.wixsite.com/ohccsewing. All are welcome to join us. Dues are $7 per year. Our meetings are normally held at 9:30 am in the morning on the first Thursday of each month… we look forward to seeing you when life gets back to normal! Sewing, Etc.
