32 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2020 | Swim, Surf & Wellness The Swim, Surf, and Wellness (SSW) Club Board members hope that everyone is continuing to stay active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The Board members have been continuing to meet, virtually, via Zoom calls during the last few months in hopes of keeping our club projects and plans for reopening the pool (now reopened), and other activities moving forward. Since our last newsletter, Dr. Alex Nakeff, former Vice President (VP) of the SSW Club has stepped down, after providing the Board active service for the past year. The Board is delighted that Dr. Kory Ward has been appointed as the new VP and we welcome one great new returning board member, Robyn Ryan. The following is a summary of the activities that have taken place during the month of May, into early June. Pool Reopening Plan: The SSW Club Ad Hoc Committee on the OHCC Pool Reopening, consisting of Club members Lynne Conde, Dr.Kory Ward, Michael Gordan, and OHCC Master Board liaison, Scott Goldwasser, developed a proposed of an extensive plan with flow map for reopening the OHCC pool, while meeting acceptable COVID-19 guidelines used in other counties for safe reopening of the swimming pool for swimmers and exercisers. The Ad Hoc Pool Re- Opening Committee submitted the pool re-opening proposal to the city of Oceanside and the Master Board in May. Our detailed proposal also includes the social distancing business reopening guidelines from the City of San Diego. We are pleased to announce the pool has reopened! Please follow all guidelines carefully provided by HOA and master board during this transition to final unlimited access. New "Member Spotlight:" Board Secretary, Laynee Strelic has established our wonderful new "Member Spotlight" and we await another great interview with expert swimmer Ken Kruger, Olympic swim coach! Thanks, Laynee! Free Monthly Blood Pressure Clinic: The next step in reestablishing the free blood pressure clinic for all residents of OHCC has been approved by the OHCC Community Service Club. The proposal in now in the hands of the HOA Master Board to review and advice. Our Blood pressure Clinic Team of Lynne Conde and Dr. Ory Ward is working to begin resuming BP clinics when the clubhouse reopens. Founders Duplicate Bridge Friday Duplicate Bridge We continue to practice social distancing, but we can still play Bridge online. The most popular platform is BBO (BridgeBase.com). While many of us join a table to play with virtual partners or join a tournament, it is rewarding to play with your friends at your own table. All four players need to download Bridge Base and create their username. Then one of the participants sets up a table and reserves a seat for the others with their usernames. When all players log in and go to CASUAL, an invitation to join appears on their screen. It is duplicate bridge and scoring can be selected for IMPs or match points. Another option is to set up two tables for eight players in competitive and play a team match. These opportunities to play with your friends are all free of charge. We hope you all stay well until we can play again in the renovated Clubhouse. We offer a Duplicate Bridge game that combines the superior scoring of Duplicate Bridge but also has the friendlier and non- aggressive attitude of home style Rubber Bridge. With Duplicate Bridge, your true opponents are the pairs that hold the same cards as you would rather than your opponents at the table. We are not an ACBL game and for that, we not only offer an extremely reasonable game price of just $2, but also give cash awards to the winners. If you are interested, please call John Gates at (760) 295-5885, the president of this bridge club, to see if this type of game might meet your expectations. We are relatively small and have anywhere from five to eight tables. The games are at 1 pm on the second, fourth, and fifth Fridays of the month in Mykonos. You do not have to join this club to play your first game, however if you decide to join the annual dues are $6. bingo BINGO is back! Great payouts (up to $1,000), fun games, door prizes, and ice cream treats at the break are just a few reasons to come check us out. Our faithful players do all right! Just ask a certain someone who won five times last year, including one night when she won two games. Doors open at 6:30 pm and games start promptly at 7 pm. Cost is still $8 for 10 games. See you there. Our 2020 dates are: Sept. 26, Oct. 17, and Nov. 21. Thanks to all from your BINGO staff!
