| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2020 | 13 Library Advisory Our libraries were open, but are now closed again due to state recommendations regarding COVID-19. When the libraries are closed, books, puzzles and audio books are available on the front patio at 5354 W. Pinehurst Dr. When the libraries re-open, the Main Clubhouse Library will be open from 9 to 11 am and 1 to 3 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays. The North Clubhouse Library will be open from 1 to 3 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays. The South Clubhouse Library is open 8 am to 8 pm every day. There will be monitors at the Main and North Clubhouse Libraries to insure social distancing, i.e. one person in each library at a time unless from the same household. Masks are required, temperatures will be taken, and gloves and sanitizer are available in each library. Enjoy, be strong, safe, and happy! 2020 was going to be THE year for vision and clarity… and then COVID-19 hit. So we've had to adjust our focus and see things from a new perspective. A good motto for 2020 may well be Keep Calm and Carry On. We are very lucky to be living in our little world here in Sun Lakes during this crisis. We are surrounded by caring neighbors and amazing community help. We check on each other, shop for each other, give to each other, listen to each other, and stay strong as a community. This strength and community spirit is the key to surviving and thriving during these times. Keep Calm and Carry On. With all the restrictions and closures, all of which are designed to keep us safe, FirstService Residential along with our Master Board has had to make decisions that are not always popular, but are the correct decisions in that moment. Unfortunately, like most food and beverage services throughout California, both our restaurant and lounge have suffered during this time. We closed our restaurant because for every $1 we made, we spent $2.66 in labor and food costs. Remember, minimum wage increased last year and food costs have been going up and up. Just look at your last grocery bill. Before COVID-19, our monthly covers (meals) were about 5,800 (dining room only) with an average check of about $19 per person. In the past couple of months, we had 2,500 with an average check per person of $10. Before COVID-19 we also had revenue from the Sandwedge and Lounge, as well as banquet revenue. Now we don't/can't. Much of this is due to the restrictions placed and enforced by the CDC. There is not enough room in this article to go into it all, but you can research it at www.CDC.gov or email our General Manager, Chris Mitchell at Christopher.mitchell@fsresidential.com. He is happy to respond to your questions and concerns. As things continue to shift and change in the next few months, the Board and FirstService Residential will continue to respond accordingly. Truly, EVERYONE would love to have all our amenities up and running at full speed! We're all ready for Happy Hour in the Lounge and music on the Veranda! And that will happen. Eventually. Until then, stay Sun Lakes Strong and Keep Calm and Carry On. Restaurant & Lounge Advisory
