24 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2020 | Knitters & Fiber Artists Sew What? Club Hello! We are missing our fellow quilters so much. No word yet when we can meet. Hope all of you had a safe Fourth of July. When we return, we meet on the first, third, and fifth Mondays at 1 pm. We welcome new quilters. For info, call Jan Hamm at (951) 212-6799 or Vivian Myrdahl at (636) 222-0873. For those of you who may be curious as to what we do at our weekly Scrapbooking get-togethers, here is a snapshot of what you might see. On any given Monday, from 1 to 3 pm in the Multipurpose Room, we convene and proceed to do any number of the following activities. We might be making cards, or adding to our scrapbooks, or creating mini versions of albums. Some might be drawing their own images that can be turned into cards or whatever. There are also gals who just stop in to visit and catch up on what we've been working on. There are no restrictions as to time, which is something I love. You can arrive early and stay late or arrive late and leave early. Or you can skip the get-togethers completely. It's a very casual group, meant to provide a dedicated block of time to get your projects completed. We sometimes exchange supplies with each other. We all have materials we no longer use, but others might love to have them. We share ideas we've seen on YouTube or elsewhere. We try new procedures or play with our new purchases. I love this group of women and we always have fun. The second Monday of each month is reserved for our monthly birthday lunches to celebrate whoever is having a birthday that month. I would like to throw out a concept that I saw in a magazine that could be of interest to some of us — creating an Art Journal. This would be in place of a scrapbook or album, which would be a visual diary of remembrances. It could honor memories, special occasions, and could hold keepsakes. This is just another option, a different way of preserving our celebrations of various events. Pictures, drawings, doodles, and journaling would be a fun way to illustrate and capture special moments in our lives. There has been much written about Art Journals in the recent past. You don't have to look far to find out just how elaborate these can be. Sadly, we have not been able to gather for our Scrapbooking time nor the lunches we love. We are keeping our fingers crossed that at some point soon, we will again be able to resume our fun group's activities. Please contact either Elaine Perkins at (951) 334-3119 or Sallie Flesher at (951) 902-9768 if you have any questions about the Scrapbooking group. There is no fee to join. Perhaps the best thing we can do for the creative person is to stay out of her way. ~ Judith Crock Sun Lakes Quilters Scrapbooking We enjoy a potluck the last Monday of each month. Join the fun!
