| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2020 | 3 From the Board of Directors At our July 8, 2020 Board meeting, we made a difficult decision to temporarily close the restaurant. This decision was based on the following: • Governor Newsom's order to close indoor dining, bars, large gatherings, and banquets. • The low number of homeowners using curbside service. • The increase of cash burn, resulting in greater financial loss to the Association. This decision, while not easy, was necessary for the long-term financial health of the Association. With this, 19 staff members will be laid off but they will be eligible for unemployment during our closure. Our goal is to bring back staff members when we reopen. If the Department of Health closure orders are fully rescinded, we plan to reopen at the end of November. During this closure, we will continue to progress with the Point of Sale system replacement. The new POS system integration will be critical when we reopen as it allows for better controls for pours, as well as better ticket and financial tracking. Additionally, the technology allows us to take orders and process payments table side. Also during this time, a committee will be formed of two Board members and the committee chairpersons of Marketing, Recreation, Food & Beverage, and Finance. Their task will be to develop a plan for the Restaurant & Lounge reopening including menu items, prices, hours, etc. Furthermore, we understand the restaurant was a primary source of food for some residents who are unable to go out of Sun Lakes. To assist with this, staff will help residents in need sign up with the California's Great Plates Program which will provide up to three meals a day free of charge. Please know that we will continue to update the community on new developments as they arise.
