FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2020 21 The foundation planting here in our community consists of trees, shrubs, and other plants that are primarily green. This planting is what makes our grounds so inviting to the residents and their guests. There are, however, areas where we have plants that provide colors that contrast nicely with the overall green of the base planting. We have large swaths of red carpet roses and smaller areas of white, yellow, and pink roses. Much of the common area is planted in jasmine that produces white flowers in the spring with a heavenly aroma. We also have areas planted with white and blue agapanthus. You may know them as Lily of the Nile. Scattered throughout the community is society garlic with violet flowers. In addition to the perennials outlined above, we have colorful planting that changes three times a year. In the summer this year, you've seen red celosia and blue salvia in front of The Summit and in the circular beds in front of The Lodge. At the Potrero entrance, we've had colorful petunias. Earlier in the year, we had white and purple cabbages in front of The Lodge and last year snapdragons. Perhaps you've noted the vincas in the pots on the roundabout that leads into The Lodge. What will we have in the fall? Whatever it is, it will be colorful. ~ Kirk Freyermuth, kafreyer@ frontier.com Landscape Committee Just in case: Check with your committee chair to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Your Social Committee is saddened over our inability to present our planned events during our current situation however we are certain you are aware that Riverside County saw a spike in the early part of July 2020 and the expectation is to see a spike in the fall as well, during our annual flu season. Therefore, we had to cancel our Mentalist event. Further, the Social Committee felt it was better to cancel our current event dates, be on stand-by until there is a marked improvement with our current situation, and have asked the Board to approve our decision. We want to be a part of the solution, to respect our vendors, and want all of us to be safe. Thank you for your ongoing support and once we are able to provide entertainment or have a party, we are more than happy to get things started again. ~ Joyce Hogue, jhogue54@gmail.com Social Committee As we experience the many difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to stay safe, stay active, and stay healthy. Getting some physical exercise by taking a walk or a bicycle ride can help support your mental, emotional, and physical health needs. Make your experience outside a safe one by observing some basic guidelines. • Wash your hands when you leave and return home to protect yourself and others. • The heat is on. Hydrate yourself before leaving your home. You may also want to bring water with you on your outing. • Wear light clothing and appropriate footwear. • Don't forget your cap or hat. • Bring your face mask/covering and wear it when required. • Practice social distancing by staying at least six feet from others as much as possible when walking or biking. • Walk on the sidewalks or on the trails. Street-walking is not safe. You run the risk of being hit by a vehicle. Our sidewalks are large enough here at Four Seasons so that you can distance yourself from an oncoming walker as that other walker approaches. • Use the marked crosswalks to cross the streets. • When walking at night, wear reflective clothing and carry a light. • Bikers, follow all traffic signs and ride your bikes on the proper side of the streets. • Bikers, have a light on your bicycle for night rides. • Walkers and bikers, as always, carry some identification with you when you are out and about. That ID could be a lifesaver if it were necessary to identify you in an emergency. As you have probably noticed, several stop signs have been added to various locations throughout our community. Drivers, please obey all traffic signs and speed limits and stop for walkers in the crosswalks. Also, drivers, for the safety of your fellow Four Seasons' community residents, as well as for your own safety, please SLOW DOWN. What's the hurry? The Safety Committee understands that COVID-19 has caused all of our personal and family routines to be dramatically changed. We need to come out of this time safely and together. We will get through this. ~ Kaye Harvey, teachharvey@ yahoo.com Safety Committee
