22 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | August 2020 | Over 150 years ago, Americans believed that a woman's place was in the home. Her job was doing household duties, church work, and patriotic fundraising for Civil War soldiers. These were the only outlets permitted women to contribute to the public world. Education and career opportunities were few. Skill building was deemed unnecessary. Mothers and wives should focus on loving their family and providing a good example of moral behavior. In the late 1860s, a few brave women in New York and Boston persuaded middle-class American women to form voluntary organizations in their neighborhoods to defy customs. They studied intellectual topics, current events and organized social reform — all before they had the right to vote. In the years between the 1870s and 1920s, women's clubs could exercise their developing talents to shape the world beyond their homes. Some women throughout the United States in small towns and large cities embraced the club format with like-minded neighbors. Our Ladies Club has been a great example of women with many talents and views, women eager to connect with peers and enrich their lives by enhancing the livability of our community. We would like to give a big thank you to all the presidents of our club, begun in 2005 as an informal Red Hats Club, first lead by Marilyn Bailey until 2014. We reorganized to become Four Seasons Ladies Club which was lead by Ann Oxley from 2014 to 2017, Diane Nauialis in 2017, Pat Hall in 2018, and Lucille Gould in 2019 and 2020. Since we've been at home for the past few months, I would love to hear how our talented ladies have passed their time. Send your stories to Lucille Gould chm0177@aol.com and we will share with our members to keep motivated. Diane Corte told me she is sewing new covers for patio furniture. You go girl. We are still unable to meet in The Lodge but I would like to keep us connected somehow and still help our local Valley Restart. We have been collecting items to try to fill their needs during this difficult time. Thank you for caring. They are always in need of paper goods and personal grooming items. You can drop off at my home: Lucille Gould 8210 Campbell Ct. or call (951) 325-8366. We will meet again I am sure of it. Stay positive and stay safe. FS Ladies Club Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, & time. Happy Campers RV Club As we continue with our social distancing, I hope this finds you all well. At this time we have not been able to reschedule our monthly Happy Campers meetings. But with that in mind, Linda Wetter will be meeting with the Pismo trip group at Pismo in September. Our Catalina Spa trip to Desert Hot Springs was canceled due to the coronavirus and the social distancing order from the CDC. We are all hopeful that, when things return to normal, we will be able to reschedule this trip. The Happy Campers RV Club trip to Pismo Beach in September is still a "go" at this time. It's a great time of the year to visit the beaches and restaurants in town. "Jeepers" can also ride the dunes which makes for an interesting and fun day. If you are interested in participating in this trip, Linda Wetter is the Wagonmaster. Also, we believe there are a number of new RVers in the community and we would like to reach out to you to join our club. In the meantime, if you'd like more information about our club, feel free to contact Linda Wetter at lindawetter@yahoo.com. I thought we could keep our spirits up by sharing some pictures (below) of the Happy Campers Club folks as they are social distancing. We asked our members to take a picture of how they are complying. As a reminder, please send me a couple of pictures of your adventures so that I may include them in an upcoming Herald article.
