Hello August, you handsome devil. I suppose the heat is something we have adapted to by now. Staying inside is a matter of staying cool and if it helps keep the crowds down in public, it is just a happy side effect. August is the month I celebrate the birth of my beautiful son. This year he officially becomes a teenager and this mama is both excited and scared. Chocolate cake, pizza, and an electric razor are on the top of the celebration list. Traditionally, August is a month of vacations, travel, or hosting visitors who want to experience all that Southern California has to offer. This August, as the previous months of 2020, is shaped into something new and different. In my experience in 55+ communities, and talking with many of you, evening games have been a regular part of your entertainment. This is a throw back to time with your own grandparents. Back then, things were a bit different; the clock seemed to move slower without all the electronics pushing the "Go, Go, Go" mentality. As many families have struggled to keep their families entertained these past few months, one thing I have heard in all my circles was how old-fashioned family game night and eating dinner around the table with home-cooked meals has really been an added bonus of the current situation. Hopefully each of us are able to recognize and appreciate some of the positives that have come during 2020. Of course all of you already knew that and the attempts at baking bread from scratch were entertaining to some. We can thank the Library Committee for not only making sure you have "safe" access to new reading material but they took on the managing of the puzzles and that has been extremely popular. We finally get to have our Shred Day! Sat., Aug. 15. We will handle it drive-thru style 8 am to 12 pm (or until the truck is full — whichever comes first). If you would like to volunteer to assist with traffic control or removing boxes of paper from the vehicles please email tracie.rodgers@fsresidential.com. Movie Night Under the Stars will be a nice opportunity to sit with your neighbors outside at a safe distance. The Social Committee will be serving prepackaged treats. Plus I finally get to enjoy your company in person. I want to thank all of you who continue to reach out to me to lift my spirits on a daily basis — it means so much to me. Some days it seems each step forward is followed by two steps back. Together we are better. 4 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | August 2020 | A Note From Your Activities Director By Tracie Rodgers 8 ESSENTIAL ITEMS TO SHRED
