28 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2020 | Papercrafting Club We have been keeping our Papercrafting classes active via Zoom and individual challenges by each group leader. This month the TOTEs (Think Outside The Envelope) group made fun Father's Day Cards… three-dimensional pop up cards that resemble a yummy hamburger when opened, a perfect card for a BBQing man. Lorraine Kleenman led an innovative class creating an abstract plaque. The materials included colorful magazine pages and Mod Podge. The class was fun, creative, and very social but also produced an interesting piece of art. The club celebrated Christmas in July by creating holiday cards for teens at a local Foster School. This is an organization the club has committed to helping by providing not only holiday cards but birthday cards as well. Stay safe and have a good August. The last month of summer… who'd 'a thunk? We're still here (thankfully), we're still hunkering down (which is for the best), and fall is on its way. The Sew and Chat Group (Tuesdays and Fridays) is still Zooming, and I must say, it has really helped us, I think. The friendship and support has been a great reminder that better days lie ahead. We laugh, tell bad jokes, and show what's under or on our needles and hooks. The group is typically 12-16 friends, and lasts about 40 minutes. All are welcome. Our monthly meetings are conducted on Zoom as well, the first Thursday of every month at 9:30, and (though abbreviated), they allow us to take care of the small amount of business that remains necessary. Show and Tell at these meetings has proven to be reassuring that our creativity does not wane during tough time. Our "Comfort Quilts" program for Camp Pendleton kids whose parents are deployed is in motion. Stockings and cradle quilts for the holiday season are gathering steam… you know, pandemic or not, the kids still need the special things that happen at that time of year. There has been some discussion about a Zoom class or two… we'll keep in touch about that. My personal request to all who read this article is this: Please wear your masks. Please social distance. Please wash your hands. And, above all, please be patient. We need all of us to join the fight, because it truly takes a village to take the wind out of the sails of this beast. Wouldn't the holidays together be a wonderful thing? If anyone would like to participate in our activities and is not sure of who to reach out to during this time, please call Chris Sanderson at (858) 442-1834 for more information. Also, please visit our website, lovingly updated by Terri Eckhardt, http://ohccsewing.wixsite.com/ ohccsewing. All are welcome to join us. Dues are $7 per year. Our meetings are normally held at 9:30 am in the morning on the first Thursday of each month. We look forward to seeing you when life gets back to normal! Sewing, Etc.
