| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2020 | 31 Art room We are sending each of you a HUGE WELCOME BACK to the Ocean Hills Clubhouse! We look forward to seeing you on "campus" and, eventually, sharing good times together again. We have a space in the newly re-decorated Galleria, in which to display the art of our residents, on the wall to the right of the Art Studio. We plan for this display area to be changed monthly to feature the fine work of our residents who may be in the Photography Club, Papercrafters, Chinese Art, Watercolorists, and other groups that we will be featuring in the Art Studio. Our first exhibit in this Galleria display space is a beautiful, vibrant photo of two large, mature Monarch butterflies, taken by Mike Baldwin, who is Co-President of the Photography Club. Mike used an Olympus digital camera and took the photo in the San Francisco Bay area. He says the butterflies are usually quite easy to photograph, "although they often have an annoying tendency to flutter away just as we try to capture their images." The Monarchs are native to California and are widespread throughout the state. Many of them migrate on an annual basis, breeding throughout the spring and summer. Thousands survive the winter in protected environments, including California, then come back into circulation the following spring to restart the breeding program. These spectacular, colorful natives, with a three to four inch wingspan, are perhaps the most striking of our native butterflies. Here in the Village, we have enjoyed the increased presence of this butterfly in our midst, thanks to quite a few residents who have planted milkweed as a food for the Monarch. Be sure to stop and enjoy this beautiful photo! ~ Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikowv Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Stained Glass With everything at the Clubhouse still on hold, we still are not having our workshops. Oh how I miss everyone who participates in the beautiful art of Stained Glass. The class for beginners is obviously still postponed. At this point, it will be 2021 before we have another beginner's class. At left is a photo of a piece I did about 25 years ago.
