| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2020 | 33 We start off this month with one of our favorite people, our own Jane Aldrich. She is 93 years old and still playing golf with an attitude. Our eldest female golfer was the last Ace of the month before the Pandemic shut us down. And she has been the Ace of the year four times in her 15 years of OHCC living. Holes in one, sure. Lots. Five or six. That is her favorite thing here, winning the hole in one money pot. Jane admits to an 18 handicap now, but was in single digits here just a few years ago. The most impressive stat about Jane is that until just three years ago, she walked the course. Yep, that's right… walking the course as she approached 90 years. Jane's dad and grandad both played… Scots expect that. So it is a family thing that started, for her, way back in 1940. Most of you weren't even alive then. I find that having people like Jane around makes all of us feel younger. I mean, apparently 93 is the new 60. And, don't forget, Jane has worked as a Marshall on several golf courses so speed it up, you slow pokes. I guess it is just not enough to feature the senior woman golfer without her compatriot men's senior golfer. So let us go there. Ken Hallworth is as spry a 93-1/2 year old golfer as you will ever find. But he was a racquet man for years in addition to being a fine golfer and still looks to be in great physical condition. Ken was originally from Manchester, England and emigrated in 1962. It was shortly after moving to OHCC in '01 that he became as serious as most of us are about golf. He has had six holes in one since that time. Here is the story on one of them… Ken played with his pal, Jim Nussbaum, for years. However, when Jim had to stop playing, they would still go out together and Ken would hit two balls, his, and one for Jim. Well, on the 17th, one day, Ken hit his ball and another for Jim as usual. But, Jim's ball had disappeared from sight. However, to Ken's delight, it had ended up in the hole. Probably Ken's favorite Eagle and hole in one. Ken plays on Men's Tuesday and touring amateurs whenever possible. He rides the cart now but was walking the course until he was 90. As with most of us, his handicap has gone up in recent years, but his foursome, as with most of ours, needs helpful handicaps. Good on you Ken. Both of these 93 year old golfers look great and seem as though they will never stop playing. Says something about genes and keeping in shape as one ages.
