Golf Course Irrigation and Renovation By Don Lopez The Golf Course Renovation Committee has been working on the contract with Candyl Golf. The contracts we received from them were not the right format. We are now preparing the contract ourselves using a standard contract form that is a Design/Build format which will serve OHCC interests better. It is a single responsibility contract. There should not be any finger pointing in case of a disagreement. The advantage of using a standard form contract for Design/Build projects is that any flaws in the contract have been litigated out of the contract many years ago. We started out planning to do the back nine first with the well components including the lake/pond storage facility and the other Capital Improvement items, then do the front nine. By doing that we would have to shut the course down for three months. We are now changing that based on a good suggestion by our Design/Build contractor, Candyl Golf. We now plan to do the front nine first. This means we will not need to close the course down. While we are doing the front nine, we can play on the back nine. This will allow us to get started sooner. When we renovate the front nine we will use purple pipe that is appropriate for the well water, but connect it to potable water until the well is connected at the completion of the back nine renovation. This will allow us plenty of time to prepare for and hold the election for the Capital Improvement items for the well. As you know, with the new election rules it takes 90 days advance notice to hold an election. Preceding the election we will have informational meetings to review the details of the Capital Improvement components. At this time we don't know if we can hold a traditional Town Hall Meeting. We will deal with the health situation at that time as efficiently as possible. During that time we will have the back nine to play on. When we start renovating the back nine, we will then have the renovated front nine to play on. At the end of the back nine renovation, we will then have an 18 hole course that is fully renovated. At that time, we can switch over to well water for the whole course. We will have fully renovated the golf course without shutting it down. We will realize a great deal of our irrigation efficiency on the front nine by replacing the old pipe and spacing it out correctly along with the new sprinkler heads. We will have that savings even with the potable water. We will then realize even more savings when we switch over to well water after the completion of the back nine renovation. | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2020 | 7
