56 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2020 | ANN (ANNIE BIRD) FLAKE LEATH passed away on August 6, 2020. She would have been 75 on Sept. 20. Ann was born to Rev. Dr. Paul Brooks Leath and Ann Augusta Flake Leath in New Orleans, LA. She spent most of her life in San Diego, CA, after graduating from Fresno High School in Fresno, CA, Fresno City College, Baylor University in Waco, TX and Baylor University Carruth School of Dental Hygiene in Dallas, TX, during which time she did some modeling. Ann became a registered dental hygienist in 1969, working full time in La Jolla, CA from 1969 to 1999. She finally retired in 2013. She was married for a time to Professor Gregory Pregill, Ph.D., Curator of Herpetology at the Natural History Museum, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. She loved her Pacific Ocean sunset views and her many friends there. Ann moved to Sun Lakes in 2014 to be near her sister Joelle Leath-Yard and husband Larry Yard who had moved to Sun Lakes earlier that month. She chose cremation and no funeral service. Joelle has placed her memorial tributes herein, and to a wider group via email and on Facebook. Her urns are three ivory granite Angel statues, for the three remaining Leath sisters. You might have seen Ann and Joelle out walking around Sun Lakes most every evening through mid-2019, stopping to say hi to people and their dogs. Ann was an award-winning Ironman triathlete, having competed in races and events all over the country and the world. Her many friends have sent love notes and cards to be placed with her body. Many have mentioned that she was an "angel" to them. She was a certified Fit After Fifty instructor at the Beaumont Senior Center where she had many friends. They loved to work on jigsaw puzzles together, go out to eat, and to the movies. Ann was a cat-mom with two beloved cats, Sunshine and Princess Anita, whom she adopted circa 2001. They also passed away in 2020. Her wishes were to not let anyone know that she was close to leaving this world. She wanted to go silently. Joelle has intentionally kept things private to respect her wishes. She was loved by many and is survived by her three sisters, Louise Leath Beard of Richmond, VA, Brooks Leath Garten Hauschild of Ashland, OR and Joelle Leath- Yard of Sun Lakes. Ann is also survived by her daughter, Sarah Blaine, stepbrother the Rev. Stansel Lee Allcorn, stepsister Helen Hope Allcorn Campbell, wonderful nieces and nephews, their spouses and children, cousins, and extended family. Ann belonged to a non-denominational positive Christian and peace-minded prayer group. She donated to progressive political causes, veterans, children,animal rights organizations, food drives, and friends and family in need. The last weeks of her life were spent in joy, peace and love, with family and compassionate caregivers by her side, celestial music playing, in a beautiful setting. She went into the arms of the angels with the assistance of an angel healer. We will see her again! Friends we will miss
