POST COVID-19 TRAVEL
The coronavirus pandemic has essentially halted most travel plans.
As a result, the Travel/Tourism industry has been brought to a near
standstill. The industry is seeing major shifts in travel. Domestic
travel has increased while international travel has declined. There
has been an increase in the use of travel insurance and the utilization
of personal travel advisors. There has also been a dramatic shift from
flying to driving. RV rentals are replacing hotel stays. Virtual travel
has exploded. Many gardens, museums, and galleries are offering
online virtual tours of the facilities.
Travelers are planning more road trips. Short local trips are
popular as are multi-week interstate trips. Popular destinations are
state and national parks, trips to beaches, mountains, small towns,
and rural areas. Staycations are increasing in popularity. Travelers
are exploring amenities in their local communities.
Some companies, including airlines, hotel chains and cruise lines
are beginning to offer flexible booking which allows last minute
changes and cancellations without penalty.
So fellow travelers whether you decide to stay close to home or
travel near or far, be sure to explore the different options available in
the new normal. ~ Irene Welker, irenewelker55@gmail.com
