| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | SEPTEMBER 2020 | 15 Social Committee The Social Committee would like to introduce Beverly Rockvam: My husband Greg and I have lived at Four Seasons for 15 years. I was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. My dad and grandfather were farmers in the Fonda area. When I was nine my family moved to Phoenix, AZ for health reasons. I attended Arizona State and majored in the food industry. However, I worked in Child Care Management and my first position was managing the Snoopy's Academy in Phoenix. This was the beginning of my 30-year career. After finishing college, I met and married Greg, the love of my life. He worked in the transportation industry which took us to many areas, including West Covina, CA, several locations in the Phoenix area, Dayton, OH, Fremont, CA, Omaha, NE, Broken Arrow, OK, and finally Dallas, TX where we lived for five years. Along the way we had three wonderful children who have given us eight grandchildren. I have been employed by three childcare companies, Kinder-Care, La Petite Academy and, Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove. As the Regional Director for 10 to 12 facilities over the years my responsibilities have included among other things, making schedules for activities at each center, special licensing for any new facility, and hiring and training directors and staff to ensure smooth openings for each new care center. Each time Greg was promoted and transferred, I had to transfer to the next location and start all over. Finally, in 1988 we moved to California and lived in Chino Hills. When Greg and I moved to Four Seasons, we both found our "happy place." Greg enjoyed the golf club and I found many new friends, including one neighbor who came knocking on my door one day and told me that she was on the Social Committee and asked if I would like to chair a Chocolate and Wine event for the community. Well, that was the beginning of my social activities. I participated in decorating the Lodge that Christmas and ever since. After formally joining the Social Committee, I was liaison for a Ladies Christmas Luncheon, the Summer Concert Programs, and a Luau. Greg and I have enjoyed living our retirement years here with our many friends and various activities. Greg is on the Board of Directors and has been active on various committees and I still concentrate on friends and Social Committee events. The Social Committee is so much more than party planning. It's building a community through friendship and fun! Along with the rest of you, the Social Committee is on hold when it comes to being able to plan large group gatherings. However, by the time this article is published we will have hosted another day or two of Virtual Scavenger Hunt games. If you have access to a computer, tablet, or smart phone, it is very easy to download Zoom and join in on the fun. There are video tutorials online to help with any device. Since fall is just around the corner, the Social Committee in conjunction with the Golf Cart Club, will be holding a Halloween Golf Cart Parade. The exact date will be sent out via email blasts. It'd be fun to dress up for the parade in your favorite costume whether you are riding in the parade or cheering on from your yard. There might even be a special surprise or two! Who's up for our own version of The Amazing Race? Look for this in early fall. Household teams will use clues to get to a location where (an age appropriate) task must be completed in order to receive the clue for the next location. This will not be a timed event as teams may choose to walk, bike, cart, or drive the course. It will certainly be fun! The winner will be chosen randomly from all teams completing the race. It had been so nice to see Four Seasons residents at our library. By now you know that the BOD, felt to keep us safe, closed our library. Even though everyone was following the rules our library room IS small. The women who worked the library were very disappointed but will abide by the rules. I asked management to send an email blast letting residents know we were being closed and invited you to come take all you want. Usually we ask you to take just two to three books at a time; this time we gave you bags to put your books in. The puzzle table was almost completely empty. We hope you were one of the many who made it to pick up books/puzzles. Committee member, Char Weakley, buys more books than anyone I know from Cameron books. (Check them out.) I'm very lucky as Char and I will share our books. I suggest you talk among your neighbors and trade books/puzzles. But… follow the rules we did. Wear gloves, put the books/puzzles in a bag and when receiving a bag put it aside in the garage for three days. Then enjoy! We have a new published author in Four Seasons, Ellyn Wolfe. I am so fortunate to have a copy to read, thanks to Lynne Spreen! Her book is Grateful for the Color Blue. Ellyn and I spoke at length, in the library, about the need for her book. When she lost her adult son, Rob Mulloy, to cancer, she could not find a book written about losing an adult child. So, Ellyn wrote one. She's incredible. I know several women that this book would help. Do check it out. I want to thank Blair Becker for his years of service on the Library Committee. His sense of humor is like no other! His ideas were insightful and always of help. We will all miss him, but I will most of all. He is indeed a friend. He needs to leave us as he is in competition with Lee Majors for the role of the Bionic Man. Soon to be remade. Today, Aug. 5, Blair has received another new hip! Good luck my friend. Reading brings people into your life. Open that book! Until next month… Cookie From Bionic Blair: "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them." ~ Ray Bradbury Library Committee
