| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2020 | 3 President's Message By Gregory Kusiak Fall is almost upon us, but it seems like most of the summer was missing in action! While we continue to be forced to dance to the tune of the novel coronavirus, we're continuing to expand the dance floor. We have opened up more and more of our outdoor venues and are working on a partial opening of the Clubhouse that will at least allow all of us to see the beautiful new interior. Our Annual Meeting of the Members for 2020 is now behind us. We again approved a resolution to apply any surplus funds towards the new fiscal year budget next April. We also re-elected Director Scott Goldwasser and elected new Directors Henry Eisenson and Paul Bellomo. The new Board immediately elected officers with yours truly as President, Scott Goldwasser as Vice President, Henry Eisenson as Treasurer and Jerry Gorman as Secretary. The new Board is a talented and dedicated group of residents who will serve the Association well. With all of the pending issues before the Board, we have hit the ground running. We met in Executive Session on August 10 and discussed legal matters, third-party contracts and disciplinary issues. We referred back to the Community Service Committee a proposal related to blood pressure checks. Legal counsel provided us information related to dealing with acts of vandalism. We also received a second legal opinion from outside counsel related to the display of non-commercial signs, and disposed of a vintage 3-D printer. We reviewed bids to provide sanitizing services to the Clubhouse during the pandemic and selected The Cleaning Company at a cost of $9,950 per month. The service will not begin until we can make public use of the Clubhouse and can be terminated on 30 days' notice. On the recommendation of the Clubhouse Design Committee, we approved the purchase of new chairs for the Club rooms to replace the dilapidated current chairs. They are stackable and easily moved from room to room as well as comfortable, sturdy and attractive. The 48 new chairs are open source in the event we choose to acquire more in the future, and will be purchased from GML Office Furniture at a cost of $11,428.60. We also waived the procurement policy due to a lack of competitive alternatives and approved upgrading our antiquated EventPro scheduling software for use by the Clubhouse staff at a cost of $10,325. This amount includes new software, installation, implementation, staff training and annual upgrade protection. We received an informal report from the new Website Ad Hoc Committee appointed at the regular Board Meeting on July 13. Based on that report, we canceled our website development agreement with Keystone for the purpose of negotiating a revised agreement. This was done primarily to retain unrestricted ownership and portability of the website and to assure that it can be maintained by on-site staff for routine functions. Negotiations with Keystone are already under way. As we finally get to experience the beauty of the renovated Clubhouse, we need to acknowledge the multi-year effort of staff, contractors and a very dedicated group of volunteers. The Interior Design Committee has done a remarkable job, from the overall design concept to its attention to every detail of texture, shape and color. Chris Ross, Judy Caston, Judy Graham, Kathy Harper, Nancy Trimino, Peggy Newburg, Betsy Murphy and Tom Murphy deserve a hearty "Congratulations!" and a heartfelt "Thank you" from our community! (You can see an excellent video tour of the Clubhouse on the OHCC website.) The tensions of this pandemic experience have taken their toll on our community. Now, more than ever, we need to practice civility and exercise patience with our fellow residents, acknowledging our common burden. As our knowledge of this scourge grows, our prevention and treatment methods are meeting with far greater success. We remain hopeful that with these advances, and with progress on the development of multiple vaccines, we will soon put this experience behind us as a painful memory.
