18 | THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2020 | COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD anksgiving With (out) a Marine Mosquito Season By Sharon Boll, 600-2579 I'm sorry to inform all of the wonderful families who have graciously shared their "Thanksgiving with the Marines" that Camp Pendleton is not allowing the program to proceed this year. I hope you all will sign up again for Thanksgiving in 2021. This is to remind everyone that it is peak mosquito season in our area. Residents need to ensure they get proper protection from mosquitoes, especially those that carry diseases, by using EPA-approved repellent products. The West Nile Virus is starting to show up in our area and at present there are no vaccines to prevent West Nile Virus infection in people. Homeowners should check, at least once a week, for any items inside and outside your house that hold water, since mosquitoes lay their eggs in clear standing water. These include flowerpots, birdbaths, saucers, and other types of containers. Friends of the Murrieta Librar y By Rita Nastri, 698-8640 Congratulations to The Colony HOA for the new format of The Colony News. It will be exciting to see the first edition. As President of the Friends of the Murrieta Library and your neighbor, I invite you to join us on the third Tuesday of every month for a free stimulating program provided by local authors, artists or performers. (This is, of course, all dependent on the current COVID situation. Because the Friends meet at the Murrieta Library Community Room, we are dependent on the opening of the Library.) As you are going through the newsletter with your calendar beside you, please tentatively block off the third Tuesdays. You won't regret it, once the world opens again. Check out our website at www.murrietalibraryfriends.org for updates, or follow us on Facebook and Twitter. The Friends is a non-profit organization which was founded in 1996, and since that time we have raised over $1 million to support the Murrieta Library. Our primary source of funds is through our two bookstores (one at the Library and the other at Gateway Shopping Center) which are staffed entirely by volunteers. Because the Library is closed, The Town Square Bookstore is also closed. However, The Corner Bookstore on Los Alamos is open for limited hours. Hopefully, by September when you see this, both stores will be open for regular business hours. Again, please check the Friends website for current hours of operation. The stores follow coronavirus guidelines and practice social distancing. Both bookstores have 5 stars on Yelp. There are children's books as well as CDs, DVDs, large print and all of your favorite authors for next- to-nothing prices. All books are thoroughly cleaned before being shelved. For more information, please feel free to call me.
