| THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2020 | 13 By Jodi Harris Great news! Even with the stress of COVID-19, the ACC is still receiving 45 to 60 painting and home improvement applications a month. As a reminder, you may pick up applications outside the entrance to the Clubhouse or fill one out online. Paint books may be checked out on Mondays only, from 9 am to noon, but you must make a reservation to do so. This can be done by emailing Elizabeth.pounds@associa.us or by leaving her a message at (951) 677-4341. We have had so many requests for more front door and shutter color combinations that the ACC will be submitting, for Board approval, additional color combinations to the paint book schemes. We will let you know as soon as those are approved by the Board and are available. A quick way to update or improve the look of your home, is to consider painting or replacing your house numbers. Quite a few homes are replacing the original number with new modern- looking numbers. If you drive around the Colony you will spot them. We cannot stress enough the importance of inspecting the front and back wrought iron fences and gates. A yearly inspection will allow you to spot the beginnings of rust spots. If you do a yearly check, you should be able to spot one of those little "rust devils!" Touching up such spots is far less expensive than replacing the entire, or sections of, the fence, which can run into several thousands of dollars. Please check to see if your solar path lights are in working order and replace or remove them if they are not working properly. They should be a minimum of three feet apart and are only allowed on the house side of the walkways. If they are tilted or falling over, you may need to reposition them so they are upright. For Just Pennies a Month Tip: Did you know that vinegar will kill weeds? Spraying or pouring a little vinegar in driveway joints will get rid of weeds. For best results, do this in the heat of the day. Another advantage is that you are not using chemicals that are harmful to the environment. Note: Please do not attempt to spray vinegar on front yard landscape or other common areas. Once again, thank you for making home improvements. The freshly painted houses and new vinyl fences really improve the appearance of The Colony. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL The Communications Committee wants you to expand your horizons!
