| THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2020 |23 By Dennis Murphy, 461-0457 We had a reboot of our 2020 Tournament schedule after having been sidelined by rain in March and the coronavirus pandemic for the past several months. Cautiously, but deliberately, we held a "Pick Your Own Foursome" event on July 9. We had a participation rate that mirrored our average play for 2019. There were 13 foursomes and 52 players competing for the honors in two flights on a sunny and warm Thursday morning. We did forgo the evening banquet for this tournament but nevertheless great competition and camaraderie was evident. When the tournament was over, the following posted winning positions for the contest: A Flight 1st: 47.465, Charles Craven, Paula Thompson, Bruce and Ann Hartwig 2nd: 48.233, Terry Lundquist, Connie Vanderbyl, Bob Neace and Sue Jordan 3rd: 48.433, John and Anita Hoetker, Bob and Nancy Davidson B Flight 1st: 48.620, Ed King, Barbara Keen, Ken Kawamura and Peggy Clendenen 2nd: 50.612, Steve and Rita Liguzinski, Dan Beamish and Brigitte Aldrich 3rd: 51.023, Mark Tamayo, Soky Hansen, Dennis Murphy and Bonnie Hinman Closest to the Pin #5, Women, Ann Hartwig – 27'10" / Men, Steve Liguzinski – 19'3" #15, Women, Pat Sparkenbach – 6'9" / Men, Mark Tamayo – 5'0" #16, Team #9 Ed Cobb, Pat Sparkenbach, David and Donna MacLagan Jack & Jill DARWIN AWARD – Person: Soky Hansen Issue: It is with great apprehension that I award this prestigious award to one of my teammates. Seems on Hole #7 I hit a wayward ball to the right of the green that was eventually discovered in the wash. As I grabbed my ball retriever to capture my precious ball, I was told by Ms. Hansen standing above my position to "be careful." While grasping to the bank to balance myself and the ball retriever, it was suggested by Ms. Hansen that she was there to assist me "climb out of my predicament." As I turned to reach out my hand, I noticed that Ms. Hansen was positioning her cell phone to capture a picture of her subject making a face plant into the side of the bank thus allowing the retriever to toss the ball into the air and landing in very tall grass, never to be found. So why do I tell you this? Simple, if you should see a picture of a figure making a "face plant" into the side of an overgrown grass bank floating around sometime on a social media site… I will deny it ever happened and that the image is NOT of me. Next Contest: Set for Thursday, Sept. 10, and will be our Regular Scramble format. As with all Jack and Jill events you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play. Just pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. See ya on the links.
