| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2020 | 3 From the President By Sandra Moyer Just like fall, the changing of color of leaves and the temperature, many changes are coming our way. First, we have a new Director of Golf, Brian Garlington, formerly the Director of Golf at Bermuda Dunes Country Club in the Coachella Valley. We look forward to Brian's strong organizational and interpersonal skills while placing an utmost importance on visibility to the Membership and staff. Please stop by the Pro Shop and welcome him to our community. Second, the Board approved the Spectrum Cable and Internet Contract that starts Jan. 1, 2021. The approved agreement includes the following: a) 5 year term, b) $52 per unit (not including taxes and fees). It is estimated with the fees included, it will be approximately $55.32 per unit, per month, with a 4 percent annual increase. c) Video Services- Spectrum TV Platinum (Spectrum Select, Digi Tier 1 & 2), and Showtime. d) Video Equipment- a total of three high definition receivers, 2 receivers will include DVR with DVR services, 1 standard receiver. e) Internet Services – 200 Mbps / 10 Mbps. f ) Internet Equipment – Modem with wireless router. This contract will increase your association monthly dues $19.32 (from $36 to $55.32) but will now cover your cable and Internet. New equipment will be needed and Management is working with Spectrum on timing & logistics of exchanging cable equipment (boxes, modems, routers). Management will keep you updated once schedule is solidified. Third, Restaurant Task Force is working diligently on a new business model for the Restaurant & Lounge. We want to thank the Delegate Assembly for composing and distributing the survey and all residents who filled out and returned it. Your responses were tabulated by District and will be used as we move forward dealing with hours, dress code, menus and pricing etc. As you may know, Riverside County is still in the Purple range related to COVID-19. What does this mean? As we reach each mandated tier, it must be sustained for three weeks, therefore, we do not anticipate inside dining anytime soon. But the Task Force is moving forward with Curbside Delivery and dining on the Veranda. Our target date is mid- November. Keep in mind we need to install a new POS system, rehire staff and train them on the new system. When we open, we will do so in phases. On the Veranda, Lunch will be served Wednesday through Sunday 11 am to 3 pm – alcohol may be purchased. Dinner will be served Friday and Saturday 4 to 10 pm. Reservations will be required for both Lunch & Dinner. Curbside will be available Wednesday through Sunday 11 am to 6 pm. At this same time, we are looking to open the Coffee Bar out of the Sandwedge. You will be able to come in and purchase coffee & baked goods, but must eat outside or take home. The hours have not been solidified, but we are looking at 7 to 10:30 am. Fourth, the budget will not be finalized before this writing, but I can assure you, the Board and Management are working hard to keep the increase as low as possible. We will announce the final number at our Oct.28 Open Board Meeting. In closing this month, I offer my personal thoughts. It's always said, "It is the people that makes Sun Lakes great." That is true. However, it is also true, that "It is the people who can destroy it." We are not always going to agree on issues. Controversial issues and actions will always be with us. It is how we react to those actions and issues that makes a difference. Should we feel free to question things and demand answers? Absolutely. Healthy discussion in times of controversy and disagreement is a good thing. It fosters understanding and accelerates the healing process. Going off the deep end, as seen throughout our country these days, is divisive and counterproductive. The one thing we all can agree on is, "you can't beat Sun Lakes as a place to live." To protect our wonderful community, we need to act in ways that promote and improve it. "It is the people who will determine the future of San Lakes." Will it be a place of harmony and goodwill, as it always has been, or one of constant bickering and infighting that will destroy it? Abraham Hicks wrote, "Make gratitude your attitude. When you focus on the good, the good gets better."
