| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2020 | 7 By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly After our election in April, we had many Districts without a Delegate or Alternate Delegate or both. As of this date we finally have filled all of the positions except one Alternate Delegate. This was accomplished by the efforts of former Delegates and residents in each of the Districts. We really appreciate all of the work done to help us out. We certainly are thankful to the volunteers. At last count we have eight new District Delegates and 10 new Alternate Delegates. Usually, during the first week of May we have an orientation meeting for the new members of the Delegate Assembly. We review the CC&Rs and By-Laws regarding elections and cover some general statements about the Rules and Regulations governing our HOA. There is a review of the rules for the District newsletter. Further, each District in January receives four $25 Gift Cards for use at the District events. The general duties of the Delegate and Alternate Delegate are discussed, as well as their involvement in EPAP. Reading the above statements, the Delegates and Alternate Delegates have a lot to digest and put into practice. Most of their time is spent acting like a cop directing traffic. Many residents need help on knowing who to see or contact about a certain situation. The Delegate will advise the residents to deal with Code Enforcement, or Architectural office or the Director of Operations or any of the other offices or departments. Living within the rules of a Homeowners Association is far different than buying a home in Riverside or the desert or Santa Monica. There are rules governing our home, our lot, our lifestyle and practically everything we do. Hopefully this is explained by the real estate agent so the new homeowners aren't shocked by some incident after they move in. If it isn't discussed by the agent, it certainly should be reviewed by the new homeowner's visit to the Administration office to get their auto tags, account setup and other necessities to live here at Sun Lakes. The previous owner of your home should leave you a copy of the CC&Rs and By-Laws. Hopefully they received a copy when they purchased the home. You are held responsible to know the rules and all that governs our complex. At our election each April you elect two or three members of the Board of Directors. Every two years, on the even years, you elect your Delegate and Alternate Delegate. You have elected your advocate before the Board of Directors and they represent you. The Delegates and Alternate Delegates (the District Delegate Assembly) are the official advisors to the Board. Therefore you have a direct connection to the Board of Directors. If you want answers, or you want to propose an idea or you want something discussed at the Delegate Assembly meeting, your District Delegate is the person to contact and find out how you can accomplish it. DISTRICT DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT HOA NEWS BRIEFS AGE VERIFICATION NOTICE: FROM THE BOARD In previous notifications, as well as on the form itself, you were notified that if the 2020 Age Verification Form was not completed and turned in by the deadline of July 31, you would be in violation and receive a Hearing Notice to go in front of the Board for a possible fine. With the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the Board has approved some leniency and are having District Delegates help collect the Age Verification Forms from those who have not yet turned it in to the Administration Office. Delegates or their appointed constituents will be going around to collect these forms as they were supplied with a list of those who have yet to turn the form in. Following this attempt to retrieve forms not yet turned in, residents who still have not submitted their Age Verification form by Oct. 31 will receive a Hearing Notice to appear before the Board for a possible fine. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the Recreation Desk at (951) 845-2191 and we will assist you. ADMINISTRATION OFFICE – TELEPHONE CALLS The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the operation of the Sun Lakes Country Club Administration Office due to imposed county and state ordinances. However, we continue to strive to provide our members with excellent customer service. We want you to be aware of what to expect to help reduce frustration that may result if you are unable to immediately reach a member of our on-site team by telephone. Our office is open, by appointment only, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 to 5 pm. Due to state and county ordinances the administration office must remain locked. This allows us to control the number of people in the office, and adhere to the imposed requirements that limit the number of people we can meet with at one time. There is a steady stream of members who visit the office daily to meet with members of the staff. When we are working with a homeowner, we do not pick up the telephone. Instead, calls are forwarded to our voicemail. Please call the Main Clubhouse receptionist at (951) 845-2191 Monday – Friday, from 8 am to 12 pm and 1 to 5 pm if you need someone immediately. Otherwise, call the staff member you need to speak with directly. If the call goes to their voicemail, please leave a message. Under normal circumstances, your call will be returned as soon as possible or at the latest, within 24 hours Monday – Friday. We truly appreciate your patience during this time, and we are thankful to have the opportunity to serve you. PHONE BOOK DEADLINE The deadline to add, subtract, or change listings for next year's Sun Lakes phone book is Oct. 21. For corrections, use the page in front of directory and mail or leave at administration office or by email to millerpublocalphone@yahoo. com.
