FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2020 57
Well, sadly, the much anticipated nine-day ride to Northern
California was canceled. Poor air quality from numerous fires
throughout the state forced us to call off the ride. It's just not a good
idea inhaling smoke on a motorcycle for hours on end. We were to
have left on Sept. 19, heading up Hwy 395 to the Sierras then working
our way northwest to Crescent City. From there we were going to take
Hwy. 1 down to San Francisco then on to Solvang and finally home.
We thank Bob Howard for the many hours he put into planning the
route and itinerary and we also thank Club President Terry Humble
for monitoring the air conditions as we got closer and closer to our
planned departure date. Terry and Bob jointly made the decision
that proceeding with the trip was not advisable. Oh well, there is
always next year!
It's not unusual during the summer months to see a slight drop-
off in the number of riders on our Thursday rides. This is partly due
to club members doing other things like RV trips, cruises, fishing,
you name it. However, the extreme heat this summer has also been
a factor. Our usual 9am departure time was even moved up to 7:30
am on very hot days and this really helped but, on some Thursdays
it was just plain too hot for an enjoyable ride. The good news is that
fall is almost here, which usually means mild weather and great
riding conditions. Come to think of it, maybe a couple of two-day
or three-day rides during the fall months would help us get over
the disappointment of our canceled nine-day ride. Hey Bob, start
planning some routes! ~ Jim Ayala, jimrayala95@gmail.com
