"With each sunrise we are given a chance for a new beginning!" What a wonderful surprise at the Board Meeting! Team Sunshine was given the Paul and Elaine Jones Spirit of the Community Award by the Spirit of the Law Awards Foundation. The award is dedicated to individuals or families who selflessly, in acts of kindness and compassion, assist those in need in their own community. These recipients give of their own time, money, and other resources just like the Good Samaritan in the Bible. This award is named after the founder's parents, Paul and Elaine Jones, who dedicated their lives to assisting those in need in the communities in which they lived. The Spirit of the Law Awards is a Christian faith-based, non-profit organization. The founder of Spirit of the Law Awards is Ricky Jones, a retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff. The Awards recognize our nation's police officers, firefighters, military, and good citizens for their acts of kindness and courage. In law enforcement, these acts of courage and kindness to those in need of compassion are referred to as, "The Spirit of the Law." One act of courage or kindness is life- changing to those in need of compassion or mercy. Deputy Jones now serves as Chaplin to police, military families, and individuals. Deputy Jones was assisted at the meeting by Hemet Mayor Russ Brown and San Jacinto Council member Russ Utz. Team Sunshine was recognized for seeing the various needs created by the pandemic and acting upon those needs to assist our community, i.e. creating and distributing masks, meal deliveries from the Bistro, and curbside conversations. We wish everyone involved in these endeavors could have been with us to share in this recognition; however, we were not aware exactly what was to take place. Since it was not possible for everyone to be there, Deputy Jones provided letters for everyone who took part and those have been mailed. The Spirit of the Law Awards group were not aware that many non-Sunshiners contributed to this effort and Sunshine wanted to be sure they knew how much we appreciated their help. Actually, we're hoping when things return to normal, these giving souls will consider joining Team Sunshine. As always, Team Sunshine is about all the givers who are so willing to help others here in our wonderful community. We already know these folks are special and do what they do with a giving spirit, but it does feel good when someone says "Thanks – you are doing a great job!" We continue to extend whatever services we can in the wake of the COVID-19 restrictions in the community. Celebrations/Memorials: We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bob McWay, Norm Callju, JoAnn Church, and Richard Reynolds. Family members were contacted regarding any special services we might provide. With the quarantine, it has been difficult to reach out the way we would like to these families experiencing such great loss. We don't always know of all the passings in Four Seasons. Our condolences go to those families as well. Marietta Ruppaner conducts a prayer circle once a month to pray for our residents in need. Give Marietta a call at (951) 325-8348 and she'll give you details. For your convenience, a prayer request box has been provided in the Multipurpose Room. If you desire to have someone prayed for, prayer cards are provided. The cards are picked up weekly and that request will be filled. Closing Thoughts: "Life is full of surprises and serendipity. Being open to unexpected turns in the road is an important part of success. If you try to plan every step, you may miss those wonderful twists and turns. Just find your next adventure — do it well, enjoy it — and then, not now, think about what comes next." ~ Condoleeza Rice "You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others — something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it." ~ Albert Schweitzer 20 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | OCTOBER 2020 | Team Sunshine Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, & time.
