It's hard to believe that we will soon see jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, and witches flying on their broomsticks. October might be the time to try a new mystery or maybe even an old one. The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a popular old mystery. Published in 1902, it tells the story of the investigation into the death of Sir Charles Baskerville by Sherlock Holmes and his associate Dr. Watson. Another favorite is Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. Published in 1934 and peopled with numerous characters, Christie's detective Hercule Poirot investigates a murder on the famous train running from Istanbul to London. Our library also has newer mysteries. One is The Midwife Murders by James Patterson and Richard DiLallo. Lucy Ryuan is a midwife at a Manhattan hospital, but when a stabbing occurs, she teams up with an NYPD detective to solve the case. Another is All the Devils are Here by Louise Penny. Inspector Armand Gamache investigates in Paris. GOOD NEWS! Our library has a new program in place to begin distributing some of our new books. As you know, the library has been purchasing new books during this pandemic. We have also been encouraging our members to continue to sign up for those books. Now, several of our lovely and industrious librarians have been going through those sign ups and delivering books to hungry readers. They will deliver the books directly to your home and pick them up when you are done reading. Delivery is on a first signed up, first served basis. So, please keep signing up for those books that interest you. You can find new book lists on our Library Association website located within the OHCC website. Please take this opportunity to return your OHCC library books. There is a box by the door of the Lamia Club Room (former Ladies' Club Room). Please return only open shelf books (no card pocket) and donation books to the box. Any book that you have checked out needs to be returned to the person from whom you received it.
